CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by Fred Hanna at 2:00 p.m.
at the Chamber of Commerce office.
MONTHLY REPORTS:
MINUTES
It was moved by Kaylor, second by Waselues to approve the
minutes of the January 13 meeting. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL
Ben Mayes presented the financial report for January.
The HMR collections were $73,809, a decrease of -3.82% from
January 1996 collections. January expenditures were $99,322.
• Moved by Shipley, second by Kaylor to approve the January
financial report. Motion carried.
ACTIVITY REPORT
Marilyn Johnson presented the January activities of
Convention Visitor Development.
Moved by Kaylor, second by Waselues to approve the Convention
Visitor Director report. Motion carried.
AGENCY REPORT
Susan Stirewalt reported that the agency is in the middle of
late spring placement. Press release focusing on historical
aspects of Fayetteville has been sent to media. They are
working with Southern Living Destinations, a group travel
planner for an article. Planning meeting will be held this
week to start design of 1997 brochure.
Moved by Jerde, second by Shipley to approve the agency
report. Motion carried.
TROLLEY OPERATIONS REPORT
Report was presented as an informational item. Ridership was
up in December. New trolley will be delivered in late
spring.
• OLD BUSINESS:
AAAA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Moved by Shipley, second by Waselues to release funds for
AAAA Basketball tournament with paid invoices presented after
payment. Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS:
JOE MARTIN MEMORIAL STAGE RACE
Moved by Shipley, second by Waselues to fund request in
amount of $3,620 to pay for advertising and mailings for Joe
Martin Memorial Stage (Bicycle) race. Motion carried.
EXHIBIT HALL/TOWN CENTER
Commissioners discussed when to hold a public hearing on the
Town Center. Marilyn was asked to have Richard Alderman at
the next A & P meeting for an in depth discussion of the
parameters of the project and to get the Commission through
the issues.
Shipley indicated that if the Downtown Parking Improvement
District or the City would fund the parking portion of the
project, then the A & P would be in a position to continue
funding groups that come to town. He asked if there are
other alternatives for funding?
Mayor indicated that he would visit with the Downtown Parking
Improvement District Board to see if they can fund the
parking portion.
Ben Mayes read a letter from Bond Counsel regarding the
questions raised regarding the Parking Improvement District
and funding.
MISCELLANEOUS:
1. Information and registration packets regarding the
Governor's Conference on Tourism which were distributed
with agenda packets were discussed. Marilyn will make
reservations for those who wish to attend.
2. Steve Ward announced that Fayetteville. will be a pitstop
for the Great American Race on June 28, 1997. Thirty
classic antique race cars will stop in Fayetteville.
More detail will be available later.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
