HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-10-24 - MinutesGROUP: ADVERTISING & PROMOTION COMMISSION DATE: October 24, 1996 PRESENT: Curtis Shipley Marilyn Snapp Woody Bassett Ben Mayes Fred Hanna Susan Stirewalt Alex Jerde Jim Waselues ABSENT: Joe Fennel, Coy Kaylor CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Mayor Fred Hanna at 3:00 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce office. MONTHLY REPORTS: MINUTES It was moved by Shipley, second by Waselues to approve the minutes of the September 9 meeting. Motion carried. FINANCIAL Ben Mayes presented the financial report for September. The HMR collections were $85,514, an increase of 6.39% over September 1995 collections. Year-to-date total is $706,073, a 2.52% increase over 1995. September expenditures were $94,309. Moved by Shipley, second by Waselues to approve the September financial report. Motion carried. Moved by Shipley, second by Jerde to approve a budget adjustment for trolley expenses for $10,900. Motion carried. ACTIVITY REPORT Marilyn Johnson reviewed September activities of Convention Visitor Development. Total inquiry responses continue to be above last year with September numbers almost double last year. Moved by Waselues, second by Shipley to approve the Convention Visitor Report. Motion carried. AGENCY REPORT Susan Stirewalt presented agency report. New booth design was presented. Susan attended the Parks and Tourism '976 Advertising meeting in Hot Springs. Fayetteville is featured on the back of the Arkansas Tour Guide. We have good placement in the television ad. Geographic placement of newspaper insert better reflects our markets. Trail of Lights will release a brochure in mid-November. • • Increasing number of responses to ads should be reflected in increased number of tourists. State did a conversion study last year and found that 60% of those requesting information actually visited the state. Moved by Jerde, second by Shipley to accept the report. Motion carried. TROLLEY OPERATIONS REPORT Moved by Shipley, second by Waselues to accept the trolley report. Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS: EXHIBIT HALL/TOWN CENTER Meeting with Parking Improvement District is scheduled for November before the A & P meeting. It was emphasized by Shipley that parking is a crucial factor in the Exhibit Hall/Town Center. NEW BUSINESS: PRESENTATION OF FUNDING PROJECTS FOR SPECIAL PROJECTS - The following requests were presented: 1. AAA State High School Basketball Tournament - $3000 2. Arkansas Air Museum - $40,000 (three year request) 3. Arkansas Music Festival - $2,000 4. Trolley - $40,000 operations & maintenance $25,000 new trolley 5. Square Gardens - $20,000 6. Fayetteville City Library - $31,175 7. Ridge House - $18,800 8. University Museum - $12,235 There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
