CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Coy Kaylor at
2:00 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce office.
Shipley moved that Joe Fennel be elected chairman for 1996,
second by Bassett. Motion carried.
MONTHLY REPORTS:
MINUTES
It was moved by Shipley, second by Bassett that the minutes
of the November 20 meeting be approved. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL
Ben Mayes presented the financial report. HMR collections
., for 1995 were $932,916 an increase of 7.70% over 1994
collections. 1995 expenditures $692,989.
1995 Budget Rollforwards in the amount of $280,000 for Girls
Softball Fields, $2,100 for City Entranceway Enhancements,
and $7,364 in Public Notification were presented to the A & P
Commission.
Moved by Shipley, second by Bassett to approve the financial
report and budget rollforwards. Motion carried.
ACTIVITY REPORT
Marilyn Johnson reviewed end of the year activities of
Convention Visitor Development. Inquiry responses for 1995
totaled 37,364. Advertising inquiries increased over 1994;
however, relocation inquiries were down especially for the
fourth quarter. Annual report will be out next week to
Commissioners.
Motion by Shipley, second by Bassett to approve the
Convention Visitor Report. Motion carried.
AGENCY REPORT
Susan Stirewalt presented agency report. Advertising
responses were up 21%. The agency is continuing the creative
campaign. She showed Trip South cover which featured Lights
of the Ozarks shot of the Fayetteville square.

Because of concern with coverage in the Arkansas Tour Guide,
the agency is working with Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods
and the Parks and Tourism staff.
They are investigating placement in the Worldwide Web.
Motion by Shipley, second by Hanna to approve the Agency
report. Motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS:
LAKE FAYETTEVILLE
Marilyn reviewed the report of the work at Lake Fayetteville
for 1995 and the remaining work to be done with the $25,000
grant from the A & P Commission.
FAYETTEVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
David Malone presented the summary of requests for enhancing
the genealogical collection at the library to bring more
visitors here and to keep them here longer. Breakdown of the
request is as follows:
Year 1 - $26,360.25
Year 2 - $24,348.00
Year 3 - $25,232.25
Year 4 - $20,389.50
Motion by Hanna to fund grant schedule 1 in the amount of
$26,360.25, second by Shipleywith additional year funding to
be voted on by A & P Commission in future years. Motion
carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
RENEWAL OF CONTRACT WITH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Shipley, second by Bassett to renew 5th option of 5 year
contract with Chamber of Commerce for administration of A & P
Commission. Motion carried.
FUNDING REQUEST FOR AAAA STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Dick Johnson requested $2,000 for rental of Barnhill Arena
for use in the state basketball tournament February 29 -March
2. This is preliminary to bid on the Overall State
Basketball Tournament. Bids will be awarded on January 10
for the AAAA Tournament. If Fayetteville does not receive
the bid, the funds will not be needed.
Motion by Shipley to fund the $2000 if the bid is awarded to
Fayetteville, second Bassett. Motion carried.
MISCELLANEOUS
Marilyn requested a decision regarding the Joe Martin
Memorial Stage Race request which she received for $5,555
because this is above the $2,000 limit to be reviewed at
regular commission meetings. If they wait until April for
the request, they will not be able to place advertisements
for the May race. Commission members agreed to hear request

at their February meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
