HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-04-10 - Minutes• GROUP: ADVERTISING & PROMOTION COMMISSION DATE: April 10, 1995 PRESENT: Coy Kaylor Ben Mayes Jim Waselues Susan Stirewalt Joe Fennel Marilyn Johnson Woody Bassett Alex Jerde Linda McBride Fred Hanna ABSENT: None CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Coy Kaylor at 2:00 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce. SELECTION OF COMMISSIONER: Moved by McBride, second by Waselues to reappoint Joe Fennel to fill a four year term expiring April 1, 1999. Motion carried. MONTHLY REPORTS: MINUTES It was moved by McBride, second by Hanna that the minutes of the March meeting be approved. Motion carried. FINANCIAL Ben Mayes presented the financial report for March. HMR collections were $68,254 in March an increase of 6.14% over 1994 collections. Total year to date collections are $214,227, an increase of 9.43%. March expenditures were $54,158. Year to date expenditures $196,463. Moved by Hanna, second by Fennel to approve the financial report. Motion carried. Moved by Fennel, second by Hanna to give check to Holiday Hoops in order for them to use that as seed money. Motion carried. ACTIVITY REPORT Marilyn Johnson reviewed March activities of Convention Visitor Development. 800 number calls received in March decreased with 564 calls received. Total inquiry responses • • for March were 6,202. Year to date inquiries received total 8,460. Convention activity has involved working with Wal-Mart, Sons of Confederate Veterans, World War II Commemorative meeting, Sister City conference, and Vietnam Veterans of America. Fox Cable broadcast a local production nationwide from Fayetteville (FX Cable Breakfasttime). A training seminar for those working at the new Northern Tourist Information Center was conducted. Tour groups from Diamond Tours were scheduled. A FAM tour from State Parks and Tourism was conducted. Motion by Fennel, second by Waselues to approve the Convention Visitor Report. Motion carried. AGENCY REPORT Susan Stirewalt reported on newspaper advertising which has been placed and will run 2 times. She presented information on the Northwest Arkansas Tourism Association publication which the A & P has subsidized for the last three years. No action was taken on the NATA proposal. Moved by McBride, second by Fennel to approve the agency report. Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS: ADVERTISING AGENCY SELECTION Moved by Fennel, second by Jerde to set a meeting at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17 to choose an advertising agency based on the qualifications submitted. EXHIBIT HALL The Exhibit Hall subcommittee will meet following the A & P Agency selection on Monday. NEW BUSINESS: POSITION REGARDING ON -PREMISE CONSUMPTION PETITION DRIVE Commission will table until petitions are presented and election is set. SPECIAL PROJECT FUNDING 1. Washington County Historical Society - $12,500 Moved by Hanna, second by Fennel to approve request. Motion carried. 2. OZARTS - $12,800 No motion was made regarding the request. 3. Square Gardens - $9,100 for water feature and commitment of rest of original funding ($40,000) Moved by Hanna to grant $9,100 request and commitment of remaining funds, second by Bassett. Amendment by Fennel, second by McBride to match $1 for $1 up to $9,100 for water feature. Amendment failed (for 3, against 4). Motion carried. ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1. May 15 - Kickoff for the Danny Ford Tour on the Square at 8:00 a.m. 2 May 13 - Tourism Day at the Air Museum. 3 April 23-24 - Arkansas Hospitality Trade Show at the Holiday Inn in Springdale.
