CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Coy Kaylor at
2:00 p.m.

Motion by Vorsanger, second by Fennel to approve
minutes as mailed. Motion carried.
REPORT: Marilyn Johnson reported on the following:
800 Number Voice Mail has been installed. This will
provide coverage of telephone requests when the
Chamber office is closed. It is anticipated that
this will increase requests but contract with
Chamber should be able to absorb labor costs with no
addition to contract.
800 Number showed a 38% increase over requests of
February of last year.
Convention activity was reported and it was
indicated that though two meetings were lost, other
meetings have been booked through contacts.
Brochures are being updated and should be ready for
Commission approval at the April meeting.
She attended the Arkansas Festival Association
meeting and Travel South Showcase.
The convention recruitment video is being updated
and edited and should be finished mid-March.
Articles are being run in the Statesman. Other
regional publications are featuring Springfest
through contacts by the Parks and Tourism travel
writer. An article has been submitted to Fodor's
Guide to the United States requesting that they
include Fayetteville in their Arkansas section.
Fayetteville was featured on "CBS This Morning" when
Saralee Rosenburg's Fifty Fabulous Places to Raise
Your Family was featured.

FINANCIAL REPORT: Ben Mayes presented the financial report.
AAAA Baseball funding of $1400 (Special Projects) and
Springfest funding of $6000 (Festival Support) is not
reflected on report.
BLACKWOOD MARTIN AGENCY REPORT - Susan Stirewalt showed the
television spot which will be aired in the Tulsa and
Springfield markets as a tag onto the Arkansas
advertising. Arkansas Times featured a weekend giveaway
to Fayetteville in their March issue.
OLD BUSINESS
Mayor's Conference on Tourism - The letter from Mayor Hanna
and information on Mayor's Conference was mailed to
500 individual businesses on March 8. Program has been
changed in response to comments from last year's
participants. Commissioners received copy of agenda in
their packets.
Hot Air Balloon - Marilyn presented options for leasing,
contracting, and purchasing a hot air balloon.
AirVenture Ballooning's proposal was discussed and
centered on advantages and disadvantages of such an
investment. Weather and where to fly were main
disadvantages discussed. No action was taken.
NEW BUSINESS
Music Festival of Arkansas — Connie Hendrix -Kral requested
$7000 funding for Music Festival for two additional
targeted mailings for the orchestra series, for posters
and for advertising costs. Motion by Vorsanger, second
by Bassett to approve funding request.. Motion carried.
Joe Martin Memorial Stage Race - Marilyn Johnson presented
the request for $1025 for advertising in Velo News and
for direct mail of brochures for this bicycle race May
15-16, 1993. Motion by Fennel, second by Vorsanger to
approve funding request. Motion carried.
1992 Tourist Track Study - Marilyn review information from
Sygnis study made for State Parks, Travel and Recreation
Commission.
Convention and Visitors Attractions Video -.Diane Bostick
presented the completed video which will be shown on a
regular basis on Access 4 Fayetteville. Copies of the
video will also be given to each hotel property to use.
Commissioners requested Diane to mention to the
producers the lack of clarity of the telephone numbers
which provide more information on the attractions.
Governor's Conference on Tourism - Marilyn asked

Commissioners who wished to attend the Governor's
Conference April 4-6 in Little Rock to notify her and
she will make reservations for them.
Henry Awards Sponsorship - Motion by Bassett, second by
Clodfelter to give $500 as we had last year. Motion
carried. Chairman Kaylor requested that we nominate
someone next year.
OTHER BUSINESS
1) Jon Davidson, new General Manager of the Hilton was
introduced.
2) John Kalaglias of the Air Museum announced that May 24-30
several planes including the last flying B-29 will be on
display at the Museum.
3) Mayor Hanna announced that a man had contacted him
regarding doing carriage rides downtown in evenings and
on weekends.
4) Mayor Hanna said Public Works Director was working on
foot bridges to connect forks of White River. Volunteers
were needed.
Motion by Vorsanger, second by Fennel to adjourn. Motion
carried. Meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
