HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-05-11 - MinutesGROUP: ADVERTISING & PROMOTION COMMISSION DATE: MAY 11, 1992 PRESIDING: MAYOR FRED VORSANGER PRESENT: Fred Vorsanger, Bob Blackston, Pat Henry, Jim Waselues, Joe Fennel, Steve Ward, Ben Mayes, Susan Stirewalt, Dede Ellis, Allet Little. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Mayor Fred Vorsanger. MONTHLY REPORTS: MINUTES: A motion was made to approve the minutes as written and received. Carried. FINANCIAL REPORT: Ben Mayes presented the Financial Report to the commission. ACTIVITY REPORT: Dede'Eltis gave the April 1992 Activity Report to the Commission for review. It was noted that the HMR tax showed a 17% increase year to date. OLD BUSINESS: Agency Selection Process Review - Steve Ward discussed the change in the advertising agency for the City of Fayetteville, and reviewed how the proposals were presented and how a selection was made. Steve commented that we made a mistake when we ignored the agency change last time, and both he & Jim Waselues suggested that in the future the committee should meet ahead of time on such issues. Color Brochures - Steve Ward showed the Color Brochures which have a new picture and some changes inside. Jefferson Travel Show - Steve Ward said that the Tulsa show last month was,a failure as opposed to the Des Moines show. There was very low attendance. tie NEW BUSINESS: AARP Show - The commission discussed the AARP Travel Show which willbyheld in San Antonio on June 2-4. It will be a large show and is sponsored by HATA. National Historical Presentation Week - Allet Little announced that NHP week was taking place, and that its headquarters were at Blair's house. Entryway Improvements - Allet Little introduced Patti Irwin, Horticulturist, who talked on beautifying. the City's entrances. She stated that the immediate objective is to plant 390 trees in area neighborhoods adjoining the four entrances into Fayetteville. OTHER BUSINESS: Fred Vorsanger introduced Susan Stirewalt, who will be the representative of the new advertising agency Blackwood/Martin & Associates. Fredheld up the mock-up ad from MRGH which will be opposite the U of A ad in Southern Living Magazine in September. The consensus of the committee was that a few changes were needed. Susan said she would take::.it and see that the changes were made. Pat questionedhow we stand financially with MRGH, and would like to know before June 15. He also questioned where we stand on the locomotive issue. Bob Blackston moved to ratify Blackwood/Martin & Associates as the new Advertising agendy for the City, and Joe Fennel seconded.
