HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991-06-03 - MinutesGROUP: A&P COMMISSION DATE: JUNE 3, 1991 PRESIDING: MICHAEL GREEN, CHAIRMAN PRESENT: MICHAEL GREEN, PAT HENRY, FRED VORSANGER, JIM WASELUS ED BARHAM, MICHELLE GALLOWAY, RICHARD SHEWMAKER, ALETT LITTLE AND STEVE WARD. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Michael Green at 4:00 p.m. MINUTES: Motion by Pat Henry and seconded by Fred Vorsanger to approve the minutes as printed. Motion carried. BUSINESS: Special project Policy: The new proposed Special Project funding policy was reviewed. Concerns were voiced that the policy was not user friendly. Motion by Fred Vorsanger and seconded by Jim Waselus to approve the Special Project Policy Concept, with the understanding that the request format be reviewed and refined to soften the guidelines. Motion Carried. MAPS: Ed Barham presented the MAPS Fact Book to those present, noting the MAP session will be held on June 13 & 14 at the Fayetteville Hilton. • Potential Convention: Pat Henry presented a possible convention • for Fayetteville for 3 days in July of 1991. The convention is the Returned Home Peace Corps members, which meet annually. The Convention will utilize the College dorm rooms, motels and other lodging facilities. The cities competing to recruit this national convention are Chicago, Miami, and Fayetteville at this time. A commitment to support the convention promotion for $10,000 must be made in the recruitment presentation by each Community. Pat Henry moved that the A & P Commission pledge, upon recruiting the Convention to Fayetteville, 2,000 for the promotion of the convention, seconded Fred Vorsanger. Motion carried. BMA/Warner Cable Video Cost Over Run: Michael Green informed those present that $5,930 was budgeted for the development of the Warner Cable Video, and that amount had been expended, but with sales tax added it put the project over budget with a total cost of $6,185.60. Motion by Fred Vorsanger seconded by Jim Waselus to approve payment. Motion Carried. REPORTS: MRGH: Ed Barham reported to the Commission Ad Placement, noting specifically the Music Festival promotion. CITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Michelle Galloway reported that the Plant The Town Red campaign was off to a great start, and that a FAM tour of tour guides will be in town over the next two days. Chamber 800 Number: Steve Ward reported that with thedeletion of New York State, North and South Carolina that the psychic calls had been reduced significantly, but that the bill had not been, nor would it be, adjusted by AT&T. • FINANCIAL: Richard Shewmaker presented the financial statement for the A & P Commission noting that this years income is exceeding the budget income. OTHER BUSINESS: Fred Vorsanger gave a presentation on the upcoming U of A birthday party which will be held on the evening of September 20 at Barnhill Arene with 1,200 to 4,000 people in attendance. Fred noted that he is the Chairman of this project and that the project needs financial assistance at this time, and requested that A & P contribute $5,000 to promote this event. It was noted that any excess funds from the project would be given to the A & P Commission. Motion by Pat Henry seconded by Fred Vorsanger to approve $5,000 expenditure for the U of A.birthday Party. Motion.carried.
