HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991-01-21 - MinutesGROUP: ADVERTISING & PROMOTION COMMISSION DATE: JANURAY 21, 1991 PRESIDING: MICHAEL GREEN, CHAIRMAN PRESENT: Michael Green, Dan Coody, Jim Waseleus, Joe Fennell, and Pat Henry. OTHERS PRESENT: Richard Shewmaker, Kevin Crosson, Michelle Galloway, Elete Little, Susan Stirewalt, Mark Blackwood and members of the press. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Michael Green at 2:30 p.m. MINUTES: Motion by Pat Henry seconded by Jim Waseleus to approve the minutes as read. Carried. AD AGENCY SELECTION: The commission reviewed the twelve firms that have shown on interest in working for the commission. It was decided to select five for the interview process. Kevin Crosson explained the city process that must be used. Motion by Jim Waseleus seconded by Joe Fennell to establish the points level to be 35, 10, 10 & 10. Carried. FUNDING AIR MUSEUM & TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER: Michael Green reviewd the funding of the Air Museum and the Tourist Information Center. The city is requesting that the A & P Commission pickup the cities portion of the museums funding. CITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Richard Shewmaker requested $28,635 for Economic Development Promotion. A promotion concept of "Turn The Town Red" was reviewed. Motion by Michael Green seconded by Dan Coody to approve $25,000 funding for the Air Museum and $30,000 for Economic Development for promotional funds. Amendment to the motion was made by Pat Henry seconded by Dan Coody to commit to $15,000 for Economic Development promotion and $15,000 at a later date if needed. The Amendment carried. The motion was returned to the floor and carried. VISITOR CENTER AT GARLAND & NORTH STREET - Dan Coody reported that a opportunity exsisted to purchase 4.2 acres, at the corner of Garland and North Street, for the purpose of a Park and Visitor Center. The-. commission discussed the feasibility of the commission purchasing r°` property, but felt that the laws governing A & P Commission to develop a resolution urging the city to purchase or assist in purchasing the property at Garland & North Street for a park and information center. Amendment by Michael Green seconded by Joe Fennell for the city to look into purchasing the property through the city attorney. Carried. The motion was returned to the floor and carried. Michael Green abstained from voting. Adjourned.
