ACTION: 1. The meeting was called to order by Marilyn John-
son who announced the primary purpose being to seek input to
the Commission on ways to best advertise Fayetteville as we
look at future advertising and promotion commitments.
She asked those present to fill out the. citizen input
questionnaires and also the attraction and/or event forms if
they applied to their situation.
2. Joe Martin gave a brief overview of past advertis-
ing budgets and explained that in 1987-88 placement money was
allocated at 54% for tourism, 32% for economic development and
12% for seminars•and conferences: Plans are being finalized
for presentation to the Commission for allocation of the 1988-
•89 budget year to begin April 1.
3. The Commission explained that in 1987-88, $100,000
was allocated for placement, $21,000 for special events. and
$24,000 for administrative expenses, with a total of $145,000..
The allocation for 1988-89 will be $150,000; future years will
have a chance to increase as the CCE bonds are paid off.
4. Participants discussed various ideas about needed
priorities for future advertising including: increased event
promotion, developing and advertising planned tours from here,
possibilities of coop advertising with the private sector,
increased attention to historical attractions, more effort to
increase conference and seminar business, cooperation with
Eureka Springs and/or Benton County in joint advertising, pro-
motion of athletic tournaments.
5. It was agreed that some work needs to be done on
refining the Fayetteville Tourism product in a way that we can
better target future advertising campaigns. The Chamber Tour-
ism Task Force and other interested people from this group
will be asked to work on these ideas.
6. The next meeting of the Commission will be held
on Monday, April 11, 1:30 p.m. to consider the details of the
