The meeting was called to order by Marilyn John- son who announced the primary purpose being to seek input to the Commission on ways to best advertise Fayetteville as we look at future advertising and promotion commitments. She asked those present to fill out the. citizen input questionnaires and also the attraction and/or event forms if they applied to their situation. 2. Joe Martin gave a brief overview of past advertis- ing budgets and explained that in 1987-88 placement money was allocated at 54% for tourism, 32% for economic development and 12% for seminars•and conferences: Plans are being finalized for presentation to the Commission for allocation of the 1988- •89 budget year to begin April 1. 3. The Commission explained that in 1987-88, $100,000 was allocated for placement, $21,000 for special events. and $24,000 for administrative expenses, with a total of $145,000.. The allocation for 1988-89 will be $150,000; future years will have a chance to increase as the CCE bonds are paid off. 4. Participants discussed various ideas about needed priorities for future advertising including: increased event promotion, developing and advertising planned tours from here, possibilities of coop advertising with the private sector, increased attention to historical attractions, more effort to increase conference and seminar business, cooperation with Eureka Springs and/or Benton County in joint advertising, pro- motion of athletic tournaments. 5. It was agreed that some work needs to be done on refining the Fayetteville Tourism product in a way that we can better target future advertising campaigns. The Chamber Tour- ism Task Force and other interested people from this group will be asked to work on these ideas. 6. The next meeting of the Commission will be held on Monday, April 11, 1:30 p.m. to consider the details of the the 1988-89 budget allocation and other special requests that may be presented.
