Dale Christy ABSENT: Jeremy Hess - ACTION: 1. The meeting was called to order by Marilyn John- son who announced the primary purpose being to interview the two finalists for selection as the advertising agency for the Commission. 2. The Commission interviewed. Midwestern Media and Blackwood/Martin & Associates. The chairman noted that a late submission was received from Gurley & Associates but was not considered because the deadline had passed. On a motion made by Melton, second by Bumpass, the Commission voted to retain Blackwood, Martin and Associates for a period of April 1, 1988 thru December 31, 1990. The vote was 4-0-1, with Clodfelter abstaining. 3. On a motion by Melton, second by Bumpass, the Com- mission voted to thank Midwestern Media for their presentation and commend them on a good creative approach. 4. The chairman relayed a request from the Washington County Historical Society for $2,000 to help them promote a fund raising campaign to finish their $50,000 goal for land- scaping_Headquarters House. They indicated they lack $5,000 to meet the goal. The Commission agreed to invite them to present their request at the next meeting. 5. The Commission agreed to send a resolution of com- mendation to Don Clark's family for his service to the A & P Commission.. 6. Marilyn Johnson proposed that we have a meeting involving the Commission, appropriate Chamber committees, the Hospitality industry, representatives of attractions, special events, etc. to discuss long-range needs from our advertising efforts. She recommended that Steve Selin from the University and the agency be involved in putting together NIP the meeting. It was agreed to hold this meeting on March 28 at 1 p.m. at CCE. Dale Christy agreed to put it together. 7. Dale Christy presented a request from Pride In Dickson Street for some help with their advertising budget for Springfest. It was noted that we gave them $1,000 last year and at that time told them it was a one-time grant based on our previous decision with Autumnfest. The Commission was in agreement that we hold to last year's decision and so ad- vise the group. 8. Dale Christy presented a request for approval of a reprint of the "Best of Both Worlds" brochure which is need- ed to respond to Spring advertising. The estimate for print- ing 20,000 is $3,300 as contained in the preliminary budget for 1988. If funds are available, we will pay this from 1987 budget. On a motion by Melton, second by Bumpass, this was approved as submitted. MEETING ADJOURNED
