Dale Christy, Dale Frederick, Jim Pennington, Scott Linebaugh ABSENT: _ Bill Clodfelter, Bob Sanders ACTION: 1. The matter of advertising at the airport by the Bentonville Inn was referred to the Commission for dis- cussion by the City Board. Ron Bumpass explained his concern that the Commission was not responding to the airport survey and promoting what Fayetteville has to offer airline customers. It was noted that the airport is a regional facility and we • need to regional in our approach to its promotion. It was a- greed that the advertising should be available to interested businesses and that we need to develop a better way of market- .. ing the space available. This present contract will go back to the City Board for action. The airport staff is to get a copy of the airport study to Blackwood & Martin for futher study as we approach future advertising needs. 2. Jay Lewis was present to ask for support of the Commission in advertising the Razorback Run in Tulsa and Little Rock papers this weekend. He specifically requested $700 for these ads. On a motion by Garland Melton, second by Bumpass, it was agreed to allocate this money from previously budgeted newspaper advertising not yet spent. 3. Blackwood & Martin discussed the co-op idea being advanced by the State Parks & Tourism Department to tar- get an 8 month direct mail campaign to group tour planners during 1988. A four-page newsletter is being developed, with the Tourism Department to utilize the first and last issues and the remaining six to be allocated to interested cities to tell their stories. Our estimated cost would be $1,265 and it could be worked out of next year's budget. The Commission voted to approve Fayetteville's participation. 4. The Agency also noted Ron Bumpass letter concerning the Rand -McNally and Money magazine studies showing Fayetteville's ranking for retirement and a place to live. It • is their intent to use this material as we develop the quality of life brochure intended for next year to supplement the two brochures currently being used. •• 5. Scott Linebaugh asked the Commission to name someone to work with him on next year's budget needs. On a motion by Bumpass, second by Hess, Dale Christy was named to do this in consultation with Blackwood & Martin. 6. Jim Pennington brought up the need for a new City image package to improve the marketing of the City to the public. He commended the brochures and advertising being done by the Commission and expressed a desire to pattern other City printed materials to become part of a comprehensive City image package. On a motion by Melton, second by Bumpass, $2100 was allocated from the Special Project budget to begin this work with the understanding that an expected additional $650 could come from next year's budget or other unused allocations that may be available at the end of this budget year. 7. Scott Linebaugh reported that a work draft of a proposed Economic -Development Department was nearing `study completion and will be reviewed by the City Manager before com- ing to the Commission for study. 8. Ron Bumpass called attention to the Commis- sion of the problems being created with the economy from chang- ing the time of football games to noon kickoff.. He suggested that someone should call this to the attention of Frank Broyles for future consideration. It was agreed that we should monitor the other games this year and then consider meeting with the University to discuss the matter. MEETING ADJOURNED
