Dale Christy ABSENT: Wayne Dyer ACTION: _1_ The meeting was called -to order 13y Marilyn Johnson. 2. Bob Sanders was welcomed as a new member of the Com- mission to replace Wayne Dyer effective April 1. 3. Blackwood/Martin & Associates reviewed the Tourism adver- tising placement plans for 1987-88 highlighting the media to be used as per the written document distributed to Commission members and made a part of this report. On motion by Melton, second by Bumpass this recommended plan was unanimously approved form implementation. 4. Marilyn Johnson asked the agency to consider including the North Arkansas Symphony is some of our printed material in the future. 5. A request was presented from Pride In Dickson Street re- questing $2,000 to help advertise the Fourth annual Springfest on April 25. On a motion by Clodfelter, second by Bumpass the Commission voted to make a one-time grant of $1,000 to this project. 6. A request was presented from the Boston Mountain Cycling Club to provide $600 to assist with promoting the Tenth annual Springclassic • -Bike Race in Fayetteville on May 2-3. It was noted that this event brings about 200 cyclists to the City for two or three days. On a motion by Bumpass, second by Clodfelter the request was approved. 7. Marilyn Johnson presented a request from the Arkansas Air Museum for $8,580 to assist them in their first year's operation. She in- dicated the Museum would have an open house on April 3 and then plan its formal dedication in September in connection with the Air Show. It was noted that the Commission had previously set special fund allocations at a maxi- mum of 100 of the annual available funds which would be $2,100. On a motion by Bumpass, second by Clodfelter the Commission voted to allocate $2,100 to the Air Museum and to offer the assistance of the agency in helping them in their advertising and promotion planning. 7 • • • 8. Dale Christy briefed the Commission on the upcoming 1988 convention of the National Federation of Press Women to be held in Arkansas on June 8-12, 1988. Prior to the conference, Brenda Blagg is attempting to arrange a tour of Northwest Arkansas for approximately two bus loads. She is planning an overnight in Fayetteville and has asked for help in sponsoring a reception/dinner. The Commission agreed we should look into this matter and come back with a specific budget request. 9. Mark Blackwood reported to the Commission on some ideas for a specialty item to be given travel agency employees in Northwest Arkansas. The Commission asked the agency to give this some more study and report fur- ther at the next meeting. —wie—ya _Stump 10. Next meeting: Tuesday, April 28, 1:30 p.m. MEETING.ADJOURNED
