.t-
----- =2-`r Blackwood/Martin &-Associates reviewed the Seminar/Meeting
advertising placement plans for 1987-88 highlighting the media to be used as per
the written document distributed to Commission members and made a part of this
report.
On a motion by Bumpass, second by Melton this recommended
plan was unanimously approved for implementation.
3. Garland Melton observed that with University cutbacks it
may be difficult for CCE to continue travelling to seek meeting groups to come
to Fayetteville. He suggested that the Mayor and City Finance Officer attempt
to find a minimum of $8,000 that could be used for travel as needed to supple-
ment other efforts in this endeavor. Mayor Johnson agreed to look into this.
4. Joe Martin reported that in reviewing the 1987 baseball
schedule there does not seem to be a weekend series that lends itself to pro-
motion for a Fayetteville weekend. Unless we are playing a team from eastern
O klahoma or southern Missouri there does not seem to be much practical about
such a ,promotion.
It was agreed that the agency would pursue this idea with UAF
officials in attempting to improve the weekend schedules for 1988. Mention was
also made of the potential that might exist if we should get the SWC or regional
N CAA tournament.
:- - 5. -Joe• Martin reported thatanotherletter hasbeen sent to the
airlines asking for comment on the co-op Fly Fvy program. Two responses have
been received, both negative. After discussion it was agreed we should not pur-
sue this placement without co-op assistance. The agency was asked to look into
the possibility of finding a desk reminder of some sort to give travel agencies,
hotels and others that could promote Fly Fyv.
6. Ron Bumpass gave a follow-up report on the proposed new
passenger service to Ft. Smith. He indicated that therail company has indic-
ated third party interest in three areas - a dining car, a weekend train for
tourist promotion, and/or a charter train deal for athletic and other events.
7. Marilyn Johnson said she would be bringing a proposal to
the next meeting to consider an information center at the new Air Museum.
8. Next meeting: Tuesday, March 24, 2 p.m
