Butler explained that the City of Fayetteville once again has been certified as a 'FireWise
Community". She explained what a FireWise Community is and the target areas of the
city.
Butler said the Fayetteville Fire Department received a $500.00 grant in 2013. Throughout
the 2014 year they used it for educational materials and garden equipment and tools to
help provide the citizens with a defensible space between the wood line and their homes.
She said they held two presentations; one at the Fayetteville Farmer's Market in May and
the other at the Fayetteville Family Fire Safety Fair in early October.
Butler said during the first week of November, Fire Chief David Dayringer accepted a grant
check of$500.00 dollars from the FireWise Communities/USA and the Arkansas Urban
Forestry. During the year 2015 this grant will be used to continue to educate and promote
to the citizens of Fayetteville the importance of providing a firewise property.
