Action Groups and Other Reporting
Meeting notes for March 15 were unanimously approved by consensus.
Introductions
David Garcia is working with the Inclusion Group as the third alternate
representative to the FFEAC group after Margo Jackson.
Local Foods Group — Teresa Mauer absent but sent the following via email:
The next Local Foods Group meeting will be Tues April 23 at 5:30 in the Chamber
of Commerce conference room.
Historic Heritage Action Group — Steve Smith
a) Next meeting set for April 3
b) Continuing inventory of historic properties, getting information to city's

c) Local historic marker program, identifying properties and sites
d) Working with the Historic District Commission to identify buildings 50
years old or older
e) Establishing list of qualifications for a city historic expert to help with the
whole process
f) Noted that today was the 1501h anniversary of the battle of Fayetteville. We
survived!
Research and Technology Park — Phil Stafford
a) Endeavors to help identify resources to help the city
b) Cato Springs Road construction completion soon
Chamber of Commerce — Steve Clark
a) Establishing relationships with South American countries, Panama,

• September and October 100 people coming from Sao Paulo/ Brazil
discussing tourism
• 60 people in next group visiting discussing sustainability
• Connections to the countries happened by chance and personal connections
• Sao Paulo/Brazil just won an award for its transportation efforts. They
move 8.5-9 million people a day on their bus system
• San Paulo as a state has 40 million people, San Paulo as a City has 20 million
people. They are focusing on sustainability.
• FIESP is a group of businesses in Sao Paulo, like a chamber of commerce
• 40 representatives of businesses and Chambers (including Tyson, Wal-Mart
and the Northwest Arkansas council) attended a conference in Sao Paulo
and presented information about our region
b) Chamber of Commerce and Univision announced a partnership to sponsor
the first Hispanic Heritage Festival September 27-28, patterned after the
Memphis in May festival, focusing on a country each year, have academic
elements to it as well as cultural elements (food, music, clothing)
• First year will focus on Panama, Panamanian ambassador will visit
• Next year will focus on Mexico, third year will focus on Columbia, and
fourth year will focus on Brazil
• Federal law requires that Hispanic Heritage Festivals occur between Sept.
15-Oct.15, and in Fayetteville means that it will always follow Bikes, Blues
and BBQ's
• Hispanic Heritage Festivals started under President Johnson to celebrate the
slow immigration from Latin countries. Some festivals have tens of
thousands
• 3 Panamanian bands from Kansas City are coming for the festival
• Will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds
• Each country unique and different and the culture of each will be explored
• We are the only city in the state to have this festival so far
Inclusion Group — Margo Jackson
a) Last event for raising awareness and gathering information will be on April
27 at the Library
b) Action committee will develop a one year action plan for Fayetteville that
will be part of the application for the international network of
compassionate cities
c) Women Hispanic engineers group at the University is interested in
participating
d) There has been outreach to the Service learning classes at the High School

e) Projects are already developing from the committee so far including, a
community art project, a Microcredit program, post card project, and a
video project. Are looking at other projects in other Cities.
f) All participants are working on Self -compassion to start with
g) Facebook page is going well and a calendar has been developed to post
regularly on the page
Green Economy Group — Damon Dux absent but sent report via email
a) Green team celebration, Thursday, April 25 at Botanical Garden of the
Ozarks, different displays from the projects in the schools
b) Ryan McClain with Pinnacle Energy gave a presentation on energy
efficiency, design and engineering
c) Greening of MLS (multiple listing services in Real estate) appear to have
less cost then initially anticipated.
d) Finished fund raising campaign with over $800.00.
e) Regular meeting times are the first Thursday of the month from 4-6PM at
the Chamber of Commerce
Creative Economy — Colleen Pancake
a) Katherine Barnhart is the new group facilitator and will attend the next
FFEAC meeting
b) Would like to meet with city person to discuss the possibilities of a building
for the groups
c) Several CEAG members have applied for Kiva Zip loans and are working
through the process
Update from Mayor Jordan
a) Meals on wheels, Mayor does route every couple of months. Senior center
does a good job with what they have.
b) Women's history day was celebrated and Lindslay Smith received an award
c) Attended the Trent Trumbo Easter feed, fed over 5000 people
d) Passed the Urban/ Agri farming resolution at the last City council meeting
in March and intend to bring an ordinance in the next 3 months
e) Town Hall meeting was well attended at Boys and Girls club
f) Airport tower had national sequestering cuts applied. City Council voted to
keep tower open and fund it for safety and economic reasons as there are
over 38,000 landings a year there
g) Steve Clark stated that the Chamber passed a resolution to thank the city for
keeping the airport open

Farmers market opened and had 40" anniversary celebration
i) Missouri/ Arkansas railroad has requested meeting with City and chamber
will attend
j) Transportation bond program passed and Sidewalk production expansion
will triple the amount of sidewalks produced in the next three years and
start at areas around schools
k) Historic bridges proposal waiting for state response
1) Roundabout by WRMC construction finished
m) Cato Springs Road trails has started construction
n) 25 miles of trails hard surfaced
o) Flyover construction will be starting soon
p) PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) passed in the state after 3 years of
promoting
q) The booting bill passed and City council will be addressing this to regulate
the booting like towing
r) Animal Shelter euthanasia rates at 10% down from 50% in 2009.
Vandergriff Elementary school holds an annual book sale in honor of a dog
named Charlie Brown who is still alive (adopted by a teacher) and donates
the proceeds to the animal shelter. It is the largest donation every year.
Community Outreach - Dede Peters
a) Community link has had some security problems and some has had to be
locked down because of hacking. Word Press sites are susceptible to this.
Spam has been a problem
b) Looking at how to design the Fayetteville Forward website on the Access Dede Peters
Fayetteville website with a page for each group and what they are working
on and what has been accomplished
c) Website committee and IT group looking to make groups more transparent
and how it can be hosted and in what format
Other:
Sarah Marsh had someone contact her about an art project on the old mountain inn
and thought that they might work with the Inclusion group for the community art
project. Steve Clark talked about the last portion of the mountain inn still needing
some demolition soon so that the property can be developed. Mike Tate was the
contact guy for the property. Several people interested in beautifying the backend.
There are Infill projects around the country that preserve the facade and rebuild the
building.
