Action Groups and Other Reporting S. Norton introduced Dede Peters, new Community Outreach Coordinator. Peters will be city staff support for Fayetteville Forward. Historic Heritage Action Group - Steve Smith and Tori Pohlner Professor Steve Smith introduced UA student Tori Pohlner. Smith is revitalizing the Fayetteville Forward Historic Heritage Action Group to develop an economic aspect to accompany historic Fayetteville. Pohlner will be assisting as intern. He listed previous history -oriented achievements encouraged by Fayetteville Forward: • "Hall of History' — images of Fayetteville on 3`d flr. of city hall • "History Minute" on Government Channel • GPS mapped National Registered properties 1 Historic bridges renovations should be complete in 2014 Susan • "Project Fayetteville" partnership with Fayetteville Public Library Norton (gathering images and documents from citizens) • Partnered with CVB and A&P to produce brochure of walking tours; during Heritage Month, 4 tours are conducted. Goals of revitalized Action Group: • Recruit new members • Identify existing historic markers • Produce history tour app • Tom Clark has offered to join the group to work on photography (city volunteer) Smith completed the Collaboration agreement and found it to be very helpful guiding him to establish goals and learn. Local Foods — Teresa Maurer • October meeting: policy brainstorming about food production within city limits and identify the barriers FFEAC Council Meeting Notes • November meeting: participating with UACDC on study to use public access and right of way for food production. Charette will be held 12.5.12 • Additional activities: Local Foods Survey analysis underway; working with NWA Council to develop (fund) resources — Food group as recipient Green Economy — Sarah Marsh • Securing tax ID and bank account • Electing new leadership at next meeting • Co -producing Benefits of Green Construction event at NWACC on 11.29.12. Counts toward 6 continuing education credits Surveyed mayoral candidates regarding green policies (published by Fayetteville Flyer and Free Weekly) • Working with real estate industry to "green' the MLS so a search can be done for HERS score • Also working on app • Looking at 501 c6 status • Met with Citizens First Congress and discussed Governor's energy plan, Equal Rights Amendment passage (Arkansas ranks 47`h lowest in US, women make .77 per every dollar man makes), Main Street mobility plan • Approved sub -committee letterhead • Initiated an additional survey • Work related to Power plant Creative Economy — Caleb Clark 501 c3 is pending • Idea to collaborate with other sub -committees to produce a "show and tell" to relay accomplishments and goals to each other and public at large • Creative directory app is near completion, needs to be populated with information • Discussing fundraising event for CEAG Peg Hart - Research and Technology Park • Schott North American is working on "Laser fire' which is a method of sending data through laser as opposed to land optics • President's Forum held — looking at ways for super -computer access • Host to Town and Gown Advisory Committee • Tour given to Arvest Bank employees Education — Susan Norton • District awarded almost $100,000 Farm -to -School grant FFEAC Council Meeting Notes • City council moving towards making a decision about parking deck location • HMR tax up 12% last month (largest jump) • Industrial park is hose to 2800 or the 4000 industrial jobs in city • Flyover at Joyce and 71 should be complete by 2014 • Renovations of historic bridges 2014 projected completion • Mayor will be presenting a balanced budget for council approval 2 Investigating partnership with Fort Smith about expanding barge traffic on Arkansas River • Plans to double sidewalk production, approximately $1 million worth, starting from schools and working outwards • Create +500 jobs within city (community, NOT city jobs) • Make additional progress to create workforce training Secure passenger rail with Arkansas Missouri Railway • City wayfinding completion expected by spring 2014 • Van Asche connection will be completed 2013/2014 FFEAC — new goals • Revitalize the Transportation Action Group; look to previous members (Larry Driver); advocate for better public transportation • Stipend for leaders of economic committees (through a grant) • Produce list/ video of accomplishments • Include employment (and /or barriers to employment) as goal in committee discussions Note: December meeting cancelled due to holidays.
