Action Groups and Other Reporting (Susan Norton was excused as facilitator due to a conflict on the panel celebrating John Lewis.) Mayor Lioneld Jordan a) Before leaving to join the John Lewis celebration, Mayor Jordan spoke briefly. Mayor Jordan talked about the Sustainability Conference that he attended the day before with close to 200 diverse participants. b) Mayor Jordan discussed the recent quarterly business reports from the Chamber of Commerce reflecting the last 2 years, 575 new businesses opened in Fayetteville equating to 1775 jobs and 500 million brought to the local economy. c) Finally Mayor Jordan spoke about a dialogue with the University and the City administration to anticipate growth possibilities for both and address solutions preemptively by design. Lindsley Smith a) Lindsley reported that Tommy DeWeese was elected chair and Diane Lindsley 1 Warren was elected secretary and vice chair of the new Town and Gown Smith Committee, a forum for collaboration between the City of Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas on mutually relevant issues including, but not limited to, campus expansions, the need for student housing both on and off campus, and parking and noise in the areas adjacent to or nearby the campus. b) Lindsley discussed the "Lovely Mural" and its history and stated that she had made a documentary regarding the "Lovely Mural". Tom asked what would it take to create a new one? Lindsley noted that it would take an appropriate location and a proposal. c) Tom suggested a "graffiti wall" and mentioned a different city that allowed a graffiti wall, as long as there is nothing vulgar or graphic. d) Peggy moved and Tom seconded to approve the minutes. The motion passed. e) Lindsley spoke about the replacement for Julie McQuade as Community Outreach Coordinator, out of 82 applicants, 1 was chosen, Dede Peters who is working at Crystal Bridges until her first day with the City on October 29th. FFEAC Council Meeting Notes Lindsley spoke about the City preparing to join with Washington County and the Adult education section of the Arkansas department of career education for the WAGE program, to create/ train individuals to attain or retain a job learning targeted skills. Government is working with local employers to focus on the core skills necessary for function and advancement. Certificates can be earned. g) Lindsley produced report of FFEAC achievements. Creative Economy — Caleb Clark and Greg Foster a) Colleen spoke about the Creative Economy Action Group and the development of a visual arts guide app for iphone that will require funds to finish and possibly a fiscal sponsor unless the Non-profit status for C.E.A.G. comes through. There is planning for a possible Spring fundraiser. Local Foods — Teresa Maurer a) Lindsley stated that Teresa couldn't be here but she wanted to report that the Local foods groups met with the Chamber of Commerce to promote, "Protein, produce and pennies", an initiative helping low income folks to receive quality food, and will be collecting food until November 1" Arkansas Research and Technology Park — Peg Hart a) Peggy spoke about the Arkansas Research and Technology Park's new University Relations hire, Chris Brannon, who will be working with the office of Vice provost for Research and Economic Development.
