Action Groups and Other Reporting Public Education — Susan Norton a) Phase one of the new High School is done and had a grand opening with kids as ambassadors to the event, with keynote by Governor Beebe. b) Food Corp gardening and nutritionists working with the schools. c) Community Health Clinic opened at Owl Creek about a year ago, going well. Open to all students, faculty, staff. Creative Economy — Caleb Clark and Greg Foster a) Greg Foster spoke about the Fayetteville monument idea and asked how to communicate with the community. Passed out survey questions. Asked groups to get back with him with answers. b) Caleb spoke about the upcoming Seedling Film festival. c) And upcoming Individual World Poetry Slam. d) Mobile app for gallery/ visual arts guide. Local Local Foods — Teresa Maurer Susan Norton a) Fayetteville Farmers Market was voted best Farmers Market in the nation in the large category which is a reflection of this community. She has already been contacted by magazines to interview about it. b) The Northwest Arkansas Council, inspired by the Local Foods Guide, held a Regional Food System Development Meeting on September 18 hosted by Mike Harvey, to identify priorities to be focused on by smaller groups. They are developing a year plan to make a stronger regional food system in NW Ark. c) Fall meeting of the Local food group at Fayetteville Public Library on Monday, Oct. 1, where they will look at priorities, policies and planning that is supportive of local food. d) Last of 5000 copies of Local Food Guide handed out. e) Looking for sponsor for another pamphlet. f) Talking with a magazine that promotes businesses and local hunger efforts, "Ozarkansas ", and hoping to compliment and not compete in efforts. FFEAC Council Meeting Notes Green Economy — Sarah Marsh a) Seeds that feed and Tricycle Farms spoke at the last meeting about food security issues. b) Jeff Williams, Washington County assessor. spoke about the potential impact of proposed legislation on property values and tax revenue. c) Survey results came in ranking individual pieces of Governor's energy plan to determine how to show support and communicate to Governor. d) Talking with legislators around the state and working to get P.A.C.E. and the Main Street Mobility Act passed. e) Sarah attended a Congestion management seminar to ensure that alternative plans were considered. f) Paul Justice will be talking at Nov. meeting of Green Economy about efforts to get more transit in the region. g) Finished experiential economy survey of local businesses to establish map for tours of Southside green or independent businesses. h) Finished draft of questions for the candidate surveys. i) Worked with state representative Greg Ledding to promote passage of E.R.A. Steve Clark- Chamber of Commerce a) The "find it fresh" dinner, restaurants using all local produce promotion going well. Almost sold out. b) Rocking with the Razorbacks, tonight, primarily for children. c) High School dedication this past weekend was great. d) Spoke with the Governor about hunger in the area; hunger is a high priority issue with First Lady Ginger Beebe. Phil Stafford- Research and Technology Park a) The Arkansas Research and Technology Park tracks progress annually and the results came in for 2011. The 32 affiliates over the last year had a 45 million dollar impact on the local economy. Mayor Jordan -City events Lioneld Local events included: the Fayetteville Underground opening, the Roots festival, Jordan the Chancellor Hotel opening, the High school opening, the Individual World Poetry slam is coming up, Fayetteville Farmers market was voted # 1 in the country, Food truck race came to town, the festival of diversity was held. 2 a) Met with the Mayor of Fort Smith, discussed barges coming up the Arkansas River. Shipping with barges at .15 cents a mile, rail is .37 a mile. Each barge equals 80 trucks. Will help all cities in the region if implemented. Will cost 173 million dollars to address the choke points on the Arkansas River. b) Visited with Arkansas -Missouri railroad to discuss opening passenger rail again. FFEAC Council Meeting Notes c) Working on P.A.C.E. legislation as well. d) America in Bloom in town. e) FFEAC has achieved 12 of the original 18 goals adopted. f) Topic # 1—Facilitator and other organizational matters Susan Norton -Facilitator duties Asked if anyone else would consider facilitating the FFEAC meetings., and no one volunteered. 3 Susan Norton Topic # 2 —Collaborative Projects Initiating new groups or projects was discussed and how to make this information known to the public. It was suggested to hold a gathering to celebrate the achievements of Fayetteville Forward and make the public more aware of them. The next meeting of FFEAC should discuss new goals and then we should get those new goals before the City Council. q It was suggested that visiting groups like the Rotary Club may be a good way to raise Phil Stafford awareness. Lindsley offered to draft an invitation for groups to the FFEAC and for them to initiate their own groups and goals. Lindsley offered to draft a news release about the goals that have been met by FFEAC. The group discussed how to possibly get some "shorts" (videos) about each group for Government Channel.
