Meeting Notes from May 18, 2012 meeting were accepted with group consensus and thankfulness for job well done! We are appreciative of all scribes of the past emi-permanent-until-she- and thank Colleen for stepping up to be named semi-permanent-until-she- chooses-nof-to-anymore-scribe! chooses-not-to-anymore-scribe! Action Groups and Other Reporting Inclusion — Pattie Williams and Rachel Townsend Patty Williams announced that this would be her last meeting to attend. The group gave a round of applause in recognition of her contribution. Patty stated that she loved every minute of participation in FFEAC and very much appreciated Mayor Jordan. She will still be working on the compassionate cities project and will be starting "Listening Circles' also known as "Circles of Compassion", workshops to help bring people and businesses together. Green Economy — Sarah Marsh a) Three Green Economy delegates are preparing to attend Citizen's First Congress in June and are promoting several resolutions including an Energy 1 Legislation Package with Treadwell Institute. Resolutions being brought forth Susan include: Norton b) Main Street Mobility Act, to remove barriers to promote inclusive mobility, walking, cycling and transit. c) The Equal Rights amendment, to follow other states in addressing women's issues in their communities. d) Energy legislation Package including: 1. Pace, Property Assessed Clean Energy 2. Advancing Arkansas state energy code, which includes building labels for energy performance and bring the state up to Fayetteville's standard 3. Revolving Loan fund, to assist with alternative public financing for Energy Efficiency Retrofits. 4. The benefits of adopting an Arkansas Energy Plan include: retained wealth via conservation and energy efficiency, a mitigation of waste and export of FFEAC Council Meeting Notes construction sector back to work doing Energy Efficiency Retrofits. e) Continue working on the Green Jobs committee, western Federal credit union, to advance loans for energy efficiency projects. f) Despite defeat of the transit tax, will continue to work on transit initiative, possibly a Fayetteville only transit initiative. g) Will work on an elections engagement strategy, to take 6 keys issues and publish candidate responses. Local Food Group- Teresa Maurer a) 16 people representing 7 groups met at Lean Green Cuisine on May 26 for a celebration and promotion of the Local Food Guide release. b) Larger meeting planned to examine what has been accomplished and to set next priorities, potential for either Tues, June 26 or Wed., June 27 at City Hall at 5:30. Notice will be sent to this group when date set. The local foods group is in the rejuvenating stage. c) They are continuing to compile the Matrix of community groups that work with food. There are at least 30 different groups in the community identified so far. d) Susan Norton introduced, Dana Smith, Sustainability coordinator at Fayetteville schools, who provided some stats about the school district Farm to School program: • Lunches 957o sourced from local producers • Volunteers educate about the importance of eating local whole foods • Summer lunch program at Owl Creek, feeding any child up to age 18 for free 6 producers working with them now more in the works with in the budget • Working with Horticulture Dept. at university to identify training and help with schoolyard gardens. There are now 8 garden s at schools (over half of the schools) School district will host 2 Food Corp members e) Rachel not here because she is rep for the state's "No Kid Hungry' program. f) Teresa suggested coming to Tuesday or Thursday market to get an older demographic for monument survey. Creative Economy Action Group- Caleb Clark a) An Art Survey is ongoing to compile information and engage the community in "what do YOU create" listings. Plans to attend Farmer's Market with survey to seek feedback on project. b) Individual World Poetry Slam -received $5000.00 grant from A&P commission and $1500.00 in individual donations/ sponsorships. They are concentrating on recruiting volunteers to assist with little things. There will be 3 local venues for the Oct.3-6 competitions at Grubs, Rogue and Legacy Blues. There will be themed open mic's and some late night adult slams. Opening night at the FFEAC Council Meeting Notes University Coffee shop to decide the final participant and the Final Night Sat. at Verizon Theater at the University. Opening and Closing events are partnered with the University. c) Last Night — Lauren Embree is working with Amy Robinson who is the former president of the board of First Night and who will introduce the accountant for First Night and discuss the process to assume the 501-C3 status. There will be 3 required positions on the board for Last Night, so far, one member committed, Caitlin Covey. Midsummer night gathering postponed until further notice but working with Morgan Hicks on a to be determined invitation only event to generate sponsors. d) Visual Arts Guide - ongoing compilation to update contents of guide until Marilyn at Fayetteville Tourism Bureau is available to finish the guide. Adam Campbell was awarded $500.00 from the A&P to do the Visual Arts Guide art. Searching for a photographer of the public artwork for the guide. e) Word -Press will be held July 27-29, 2012. Opening night at "Iceburg" $30.00 for all three days. Chamber Update -Steve Clark a) June 25 starts the "Young Entrepreneur Camp," young students meeting with university professors and local business leaders learning ways to bring forth ideas. At the end of the camp, a winner will be chosen, winning $500.00, becoming legally incorporated and having an accounting service available to them. The hope is that the event will be regional and not just for Fayetteville. b) On Sept 23, "Find it Fresh in Fayetteville" at the Brick House Cafe on the Square. Chef coming to prepare all local food menu. c) Arkansas Economic Development Commission, August 1 and 2. Mayor's Comments Lioneld a) The Greenway Trail ribbon cutting occurred in Rogers and represents 37 miles Jordan of trail from Fayetteville to Bentonville. b) The Mayor is one of the cosponsors of the 2009 building codes. If council chooses to pass, Fayetteville will have labels on homes as soon as January 2013. 2 Sarah Marsh working with MLS to get that section passed. c) Fayetteville is the first city in Arkansas to be certified a Habitat City. d) Work is progressing with Garland street improvements, the Roundabout by WRMC, and the Flyover by the Mall. e) The Mayor told the story of the Food Truck episode with the Light Pole and hog call! FFEAC Council Meeting Notes Topic # 1—Update on Community Link Julie provided an update on the changes that have been made to Community Link and showed the group how to click through to find all of the Fayetteville Forward 3 and FFEAC materials. There have been over 300,000 hits on community link so far. Julie It is being submitted for a national award. It is unique because it is built upon open McQuade source technologies. MBA interns are evaluating the web site and offering ideas for making it as user friendly as possible. Topic # 2 —Collaborative Projects 4 Sarah suggested allotting 15 minutes of each meeting at the end after reports to talk Sarah Marsh about collaborative projects. Topic # 3 - Facilitation 5 Susan Julie McQuade will facilitate July's meeting as Susan Norton will be on vacation. Norton
