HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION
A regular meeting of the Fayetteville Historic District Commission was held on August 8,
2013 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 326 in the City Administration Building at 113 W. Mountain
Street, Fayetteville, Arkansas.

meeting to order.
Upon roll call all members except Turk were present.

Motion:
Commissioner Myres made a motion to approve. Commissioner Hogan seconded the
motion. Upon roll call the motion passed with a vote of 4-0-0.

New Business:
Status of Old Post Office
Commissioner Hogan discussed that the covenant placed on the Old Post Office to
protect the building will run out in five years. We may want to look at it to try and protect
the building.
Steve Smith discussed some of information regarding the covenant.
The commission requested staff to look into the details.
Andrew Garner, Senior Planner, indicated that he could inquire at the City Attorney's
office regarding the covenant.
Pictorial History of Fayetteville
Commissioner Hogan discussed that this was just a reminder on the agenda and he
discussed trying to get a copy of this.
Oak Cemetery Historic Register
Commissioner Hogan discussed that he has the application completed and just needs to
get a signature from an owner/representative of the cemetery. He asked staff if they were
able to get in contact with the cemetery.
Andrew Garner, Senior Planner, stated that he would look into it.
Wolf Building/City Administration Building
The commissioners asked the status of the application of this building to the historic
register.
Andrew Garner, Senior Planner indicated that the previous chair (Gary Coover)
completed and submitted the application to the state and thought it was determined not be
eligible.
The commissioners requested staff to try and get a copy of the application so it could
potentially be modified and re -submitted.
Favetteville Forward Update
Steve Smith, Facilitator of the Fayetteville Forward History and Heritage Group,
gave an update on their most recent meeting.

Commissioner Lolley discussed that he would prefer to a new chair on board now, as
opposed to waiting until additional commissioners are appointed.
Commissioner Myres and Hogan agreed with Commissioner Lolley.
Motion:
Commissioner Lolley made a motion to elect Christine Myres as Chair and Jerry Hogan as Vice -
Chair.
Commissioner Myres and Hogan indicated that they both would prefer not to be chair.
The commissioners agreed to decide the chair by a coin toss and Commissioner Hogan was
determined to be chair by the coin toss.
Commissioner Lolley amended his motion to elect Jerry Hogan as Chair and Christine Myres as
Vice -Chair.
Upon roll call the motion passed with a vote of 4-0-0.
New Business:
Potential for College Avenue and West Center as Historic Districts
Commissioner Hogan discussed that he had the idea to establish two new historic
districts: one along College Avenue and one on West Center Street. He discussed the
historic merits of both of these areas and the exhibits he prepared with staff s help
showing his proposed district boundaries.
Commissioner Lolley agreed with Commissioner Hogan's idea, giving background on
how the attempt to place Dickson Street into a historic district failed, but that he felt these
two districts had great potential.
Commissioners Watson and Myres both discussed agreement on attempting

Commissioner Lolley made a motion to move forward with pursuing both the areas in
Commissioner Hogan's exhibits as historic districts. Upon roll call the motion passes
with a vote of 4-0-0.
ProiectIdeas:
Commissioner Lolley asked about the plaque on the Specialized Real Estate project
north of the high school.
Commission Hogan discussed what happened regarding the plaque.
Commissioner Lolley discussed that he would follow up with the developer.

Commissioner Lolley asked for a forwarding address to Gary Coover to send an
appreciation certificate to him.
Commissioner Myres discusses her contacts at the University of Arkansas and the
potential for student interns.
Commissioner Myres discussed the Waxhaws memorial in Walker Park is in disrepair
and the fact that the commission should put together the appropriate materials for this
next years grant application.
Commissioner Watson discussed the Woolsey Homestead that us under City ownership
and may become more of a public education outreach, and the commission could think
about partnering or helping with this project.
Commissioner Hogan discussed that he has been in conversation with the parks
Department to install historic plaques in various parks.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7.06 PM.
