A special meeting of the Fayetteville Fire Pension and Relief Fund Board of
Trustees was held on Friday, August 26, 1988 at 1:30 p.m. in Room 313 of City
Hall, 113 W. Mountain Street.
PRESENT: Chairman Pennington, Secretary McWethy, Fire Chief Jackson,
Firemen Dill, Reagan and Bonaduce, and retiree Springston

Chief Jackson asked the Board to consider a request from Larry Mason for
retirement, which he said was recommended by his physician because Mason has
Parkinson's Disease.
A letter from Mason's doctor, dated June 2, 1988, was submitted by Jackson and
was read to the Board, which had recommended Mason go on medical leave. Jackson
said Mason was put on medical leave at that time. He then submitted a copy of a
letter from Mason's doctor, dated August 5, 1988, which he read to the Board and
which recommended Mason be considered permanently disabled with a diagnosis of
Parkinson's disease.
Jackson said Larry Mason did not feel he should be working any longer. Jackson
reported that Mason's sick leave would be down to six months after September 13,
and he recommended he go on retirement at that time. He said the City Attorney
had advised there should be no problem with this recommendation.
In answer to a question from Springston, Jackson noted that Mason's disability
was not service -related, but was a medical disability.
