Policy on Refund of Pension Funds
In answer to some questions from Board members, Treasurer Linebaugh
explained that refunds of pension funds can be made, according to
State statutes, by the Treasurer, with no Board action necessary.
Logue explained also that a withdrawal of the employee's portion of
the funds can be made at any time.
Fireman Dill stated he would like to know about refunds which have
been made before others in the department find out. Linebaugh explained
refund requests come to the Treasurer via the Fire Chief; that perhaps
Logue could provide notification.
One fireman reported that, in contacting Katherine Hinshaw, administrator
at the State Pension office, he was told that the Board cannot withdraw
moneys out of the Pension Fund. Linebaugh stated the City Attorney's
opinion is that the refunds are refunds of contributions made, not
refunds of "pension" funds.
ADJOURNMENT
Fireman Judy, seconded by Dill, made a motion to adjourn. The motion
passed unanimously and the meeting was adjourned at about 4:47 P.M.
