HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-03-11 MinutesMINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION A regular meeting of the Fayetteville Historic District Commission was held on March 11, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 219 in the City Administration Building at 113 W. Mountain Street, Fayetteville, Arkansas. ACTION TAKEN HDC Brochure National Historic Preservation Month Historic District Commission February 11, 2010 Page 2 MEMBERS PRESENT Cheri Coley Annie Dowling Ethel Goodstein-Murphree Mikel Lolley Karon Reese MEMBERS ABSENT Mark Alt Cindy Kalke STAFF PRESENT STAFF ABSENT Dara Sanders, Current Planner 2 Historic District Commission February 11, 2010 Page 3 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Lolley at 5:30 p.m. I. Old Business HDC Brochure Dara Sanders explained the history of the project and presented the ranked buildings provided to staff by Commissioners. Commissioners followed the list and expressed support or disinterest in utilizing each property in the brochure. A timeline format for the interior of the brochure was agreed. The following list was established: White Hangar on the Cover The Lafayette Street Overpass as a transparent layer A stone house on Maple or 605 Park Avenue (the Drake House) The Jones House The Byrnes House UA Fine Arts Building St. James Church Evergreen Cemetery SWEPCO Buildings Herman's or George's Jefferson School A portion of Dickson Street from the West Dickson Historic District Washington County Courthouse Interior image of the City Council Chambers II. New Business National Historic Preservation Month Commissioners discussed coupling an event on the First Thursday event in May, during which the Mayor could issue a proclamation of National Historic Preservation Month on the steps of the Old Post Office. Commission Goodstein-Murphree suggested an awards program to include three (3) categories. Sustained achievement/contribution to Historic Preservation, physical rehabilitation/restoration/reuse of an historic structure, and economic development were rough ideas for categories. She directed staff to research what process, requirements, and limitations would be associated with this project. MEETING ADJOURNED: 7:25 P.M.
