• Mitchell gave an in depth overview of Walton Arts Center including the initial
planning process, original fundraising, land and ownership details, regional focus
and programming information. He did not have insider information about the
future of the Center. He did suggest that the Fayetteville Arts Council become
more involved by attending Walton Arts Center Board and Council meetings.
• Mitchell made additional suggestions to get involved upcoming mayoral election
and to not have an advisory committee but rather seek advice from regional
business, organizational and political leaders.
V. Updates:
• Mayoral Debate Sub -Committee (led by Gabel) — Gabel reports that group is still
discussing the possibility of attaching arts council concerns with another group.
• Advisory Board Sub -Committee (led by Peters) — would like to follow Bill
Mitchell's advice and ask area leaders to be "ambassadors". Will meet in the
future.
• Cultural Inventory Sub -Committee (led by Kaminsky) — meeting week of 3/10

VI. New Information:
• Gabel reported on City using an Arts Council member on Walton Arts Council —

member, not as a city representative. Clerk's office also recommended attending
Walton Arts Center Council meetings as a member of the public.
• Gott reported on two arts proposals beginning the approval process:
o Artery — A&P Commission checking first on possible public right-of-way issues.
o Sculpture by Steve Hoover to be located on Frisco Trail.
