Meeting Minutes
City Hall, Room 326 — 113 W. Mountain St. Fayetteville, AR 72701
Arts Council present: Julie Gabel, Bryan Gott, Hank Kaminsky, Michael Landman, John
O'Connell, Dede Peters, Mark Landon Smith, Kathy Thompson, LaDawna Whiteside
Guests:
• Karen Minkel/City of Fayetteville — Long Range Planner
I. Meeting called to order at 6:07 pm.
11. Presentation: Walker Park Neighborhood Planning:
• Karen Minkel invited member of the Fayetteville Arts Council to be part of the
Walker Park neighborhood planning discussion during the week of Sept. 23rd
III. Minutes from August 1" meeting unanimously approved.
IV. Committee reports:
• Peters presented information of sidewalk treatment.
• Kaminsky discovered right-of-way visibility must conform to the "sight vision
triangle."
• Gott presented examples of wayfinding and navigation tools.
• Jill Anthes/Planning Commissioner — City of Fayetteville, Board Member —
Fayetteville Downtown Partners, Campus Planner — University of Arkansas
relayed that UA is going ahead with a wayfinding system on campus and
will also include 1-540 and parts of the city of Fayetteville. The consulting
firm is also currently talking with other municipalities in the Northwest
Arkansas region for a region -wide system.
• Thompson stated her committee would not meet with Fayetteville Downtown
Partners until after the Arts Festival. Thompson also stated the importance of
attending city meetings and let council members know about the Arkansas Arts
Council's "ArtsLinks" occurring in October in Rogers.
• Don Upton/NWA Renaissance Festival spoke from the audience letting the council
know of the upcoming Festival and was seeking help in promoting it.
• Landman presented his findings on how San Antonio, TX established the
Riverwalk area. He also requested that there be a virtual "file cabinet" on
fayettevillearts.org for the Council members to store findings.
V. New Committees formed:
• Discuss language of Bylaws — Kaminsky, Whiteside
• Vision and Strategy Committee — Gabel, Kaminsky, O'Connell, Smith, Thompson
VI. Progress Plan:
• Gott presented an outline of steps for Council to take in establishing goals and
identity of Arts Council. He requested other Council members send him ideas.
• Landman requested everyone compile a list of professional organization that
each Council member belongs to.
VII. Discussion: Ideas presented by individual Council members of future duties, goals
and identity of Arts Council.
