Fayetteville Public Library
Meeting, 4:00 p.m., July 8, 1985
Present: Board members Bobbye Hay, Hugh Longino, Margaret Salassi;
Director Linda Harrison; Carol Wright, Ozarks Regional Library;
and Pat Donat, Northwest Arkansas Times.
Director Harrison reviewed the circulation and financial reports
attached. She reported that the circulation drop is unexplained, although
a late summer reading program may have had some effect.
There was no report on the dumpster or the trees along the street.
Director Harrison has asked Scott Starr to inspect the trees.
Chairman Salassi gave a report on phone calls received from concerned
citizens about the AIDS workshop held at the library auditorium. City policy
is that buildings are available for meetings which are open to the general
public, providing there is no admission charged. Mrs. Salassi sent a copy
of "Rules and Regulations for Use of the Auditorium" to one caller.
The Board approved closing the library the week before Labor Day (August
26 - September 2) for workshop and reprieve week. This has been a practice
for several years during a period of low attendance andwill be publicized.
Member Longino proposed development of a long range plan for library
growth. Chamber of Commerce projections indicate a Fayetteville population
of 60,4.00 in 1995. Ozarks Regional Librarian Wright stated the library
has no technical staff and serves abouth three-fourths of the county, using
a space of approximately seven -tenths square foot per capita. The library
now has about one and seven -tenths books per person; six books per person is
recommended. Many more books are available to the Fayetteville Library through
the Ozarks Regional Library and the State system. Director Harrison indicated
an ALA publication which can be used for planning purposes is available.
Member Longino volunteered to produce a rough draft of a long range plan to
be studied at future meetings.
The meeting adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Bobbye S. ay, Secretory
