Director Harrison presented the attached statistical and financial reports. She pointed out that quarterly payments had been received. Old Business: Discarded Materials: A letter recieved fromlthe American Library Association was presented. It offered no constructive suggestions for disposal of discarded materials. Director Harrison reported on a discussion with Sturman Mackey, who handles the city auction of discarded equipment. He is willing to handle the storage and sale of discarded library books as part of the City Auction. Bobbye Hay made a motion to turn discarded materials over to the city for disposal at the city sale. Jane House seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously. Personnel Survey: Director Harrison reported on the Personnel Survey Report. Pages 1-60 have been approved; the pay grade has not been approved. The report recommends city payment of 60 per cent of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield family plan insurance and provision of 115,000 life insurance for most employees, 125,000 for managerial employees. A lump sum pay- ment on the anniversary date is recommended for longevity pay. A bonus plan for exceptional service is recommended for 1986. Approximately 50 per cent of employees are eligible. Two library employees are at the Step G --the highest bracket in the pay scale. However, total library budgeted salaries and fringes will be slightly less under the proposed pay scale. The general recommendation is as an across the board increase of 4 per cent with change on the anniversary date. Finance Committee meetings on the proposals will begin this week. Inventory: Director Harrison reported on costs of identifying tags far library inventory. After discussion, the Board approved purchase of prenumbered metal tags for items having a value of "500 or more with purchase of less expensive tags for items having lesser values. Director Harrison is to prepare cards for use in taking the inventory using the City of Fayetteville card as a guide. New Business: Telephone Directories: Director Harrison reported that telephone directories from Arkansas Southwestern Bell will be free, but other directories will require a cost of 12,203.34 plus tax if presently held directories are replaced. In the past all directories have been free. The telephone directories are well. -used library resources; replaced directories are given to the Harrison Library. Discussion indicated that it may be advisable to renew only half or one- third of the directories in alternate years. The Board recommended this procedure to Director Harrison.
