Others present: Carol Wright from the Ozarks Regional Library, Pat Donat from the Northwest Arkansas Times and Linda Foster. Librarian Linda Foster presented the attached statistical and financial reports for September, the third quarter 1983 and year-to-date, and answered questions about items in the reports. Problems with the physical appearance of the meeting room and obtaining genealogical books were discussed. Treasurer Lois Miller reported Ellis Shelton wants to release manage- ment of the Endowment Fund and will turn the records over to her after they have been audited. Linda Foster has a list of Endowment Fund investments on file. Librarian Linda Foster reported that administrative expenses of the retirement plan (paid to Bob Hall and Associates) were deducted from employees' salaries in 1982, though the city paid the expenses for its employees. A motion to have the library pay the retirement plan administrative costs for library employees was made by Bobbye Hay and seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Librarian Linda Foster reported receiving a letter from Scott Line- baugh requesting revision of the library audit report format for inclusion in the city audit. She had discussed the matter with library auditor, John Ervin, who agreed to follow the changed format. A request from John Benedict of the Razorback Running Club to start a benefit run from the library grounds was presented. Because of heavy library usage on a Saturday, parking problems, and recently -planted nursery items, the Board decided to decline the request. A request from Rod Hudson, Energy Consultant, to make a free energy audit was presented. The Board agreed to the audit with the understanding that there was no commitment on its part. An unused microfilm reader (original cost 1450.00) which has no knobs and for which replacing parts is difficult was declared obsolete and available for sale. Librarian Linda Foster was authorized to put a "for sale" sign on the machine and contact interested parties. The Board suggested sealed bids. Librarian Linda Foster is authorized to accept the highest bid. The following October adtivities were announced: October 15 - Genealogy Workshop for beginners October 20 - Friends of Fayetteville Public Library annual meeting October 29 - Frineds of Fayetteville Public Library book sale. Treasurer Lois Miller was authorized to sign as Board representative in approving purchase of investments for the retirement fund. The Board reviewed a list of equipment requests to submit to Friends of the Fayetteville Public Library. Some items were deleted, others added. It was agreed that the library staff should establish priorities for the equip- ment before presenting the list. Chairman Robbin Anderson submitted a draft of proposed by-laws to sup- plement the Library Act. The by-laws will be considered at the next meeting.
