APRIL 11, 1983--4 p.m.
PRESENT: Anderson, Hay, Rains, Miller, Wright, Foster, and Salassi
Linda Foster presented the statistical and financial reports. The first quarterly
report showed library usage at 60,841 and 848 new registrations.
For the month of March usage was 21,704 compared to 22, the
previous year.
During the first quarter of 1983 the library has received in-
come of $58,927.98 and expenses were $46,697.51 with budget
categories within budgeted amounts. The March financial report
did not include $11,730 in the Cash Management Account.
Linda Foster read a letter from a patron who complained about the noise
level in the Library. A discussion followed in which it was
observed that efforts have been made during recent years to
change the image of libraries from a place of whispers to a
more informal atmosphere. The board suggested that Ms. Foster
encourage staff and clients to reduce the noise level in
library and, if possible, to put up signs asking for quiet
in specific areas.
The board discussed the previous problem of the drainage situation. Ms.
Foster will continue to investigate the problem and will make
arrangements for the system to be checked for a possible
stoppage.
The Board approved a request for handicapped parking space in the south
parking lot for patrons of the Talking Books Library, located
on the ground level. Linda Foster was authorized to work with
city officials to get a handicapped parking sign painted in
the space nearest to the library for the handicapped.
There being no further business the meeting was adjouned.
