BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
May 10, 1982
4 p.m.
PRESENT:
Members: Anderson, Miller, Trumbo, and Salassi
Staff Members: Foster, Wright
Ms. Foster presented the April 1982 financial and statistical reports.
DISCUSSION OF THE FOLLOWING ITEMS FOLLOWED:
1)Summer Reading Program and pre-school story hours during the time
of June 7-29. This year's theme is "Knights & Dragons". Ms. Danley
is co-ordinating the summer program as usual.
2)The Petition to put a state constitutional amen ent on the ballot to
improve our public libraries. We have 400 signatures and need 4,000
more by June 15. On May 20-21 "Friends of the Library" will staff a
table at the Mall to get more signatures. No one was too optimistic
about the number necessary to get the amendment on the ballot.
3)Report of the open house held by "The Friends of the Library".
Over 100 people attended and over 30 new members joined.
4)Irrigation system. Mike Milligan of Greenland Nursery, the firm who
is currently responsible for the irrigation and landscap^'f presented
a bid of $1,450 to install a sprinkling system. Currently it costs
$125 per watering, plus the water bill. The system would pay for it-
self in one season with a 100% warranty on all parts and labor.
A motion was made, seconded, and passed to 1) seek other bids for
the sprinkling system, and 2) authorize Ms. Foster to accept the
bid of Greenland Nursery, if it is the lowest.
5)Roof and walk repair. No action has been taken as yet.
6)Auditorium policy. No action taken as yet because J. McCord (legal
counsel) is reading the policy:. The current statement of policy.
(Public Library) is that the use of the auditorium should not interfer
with normal operation of the library. This includes parking, children
must have adult supervision, and the noise factor.
7)New brochure of the Fayetteville Public Library designed by Marty Smith.
The new pamphlet was compared to the old pamphlet. The new one in-
cludes added information, new hours, and a more attractive format.
8)The Ozark Regional Library Personnel Manuel (Revised 1982) was distributed.
AT the same time the Personnel Policy of the City of Fayetteville,
a copy of the old Ozark Regional Library Personnel Manuel, and an
Organizational Chart were handed out. Ms. Wright discussed the re-
vision and said that each library would "add a policy sheet". The
Board members were asked to read through both policies and watch for any
cases where there might be conflicts.
