Board of Trustees Meeting
Fayetteville Public Library
February 20, 1996
Attending. Linda Harrison, Michael Thomas, Carol Phillips, Mark Burdette, Steve
Singleton.
Agenda: Discussion of personnel matters.
Michael Thomas called a meeting of the Fayetteville Public Library Board to order
at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 1996. Thomas said the purpose of the special
meeting was to discuss a personnel matter involving the Americans with Disabilities Act,
whereupon the meeting moved into executive session. Following the executive session,
the board took the following actions:
• The board asked Harrison to send a certified letter expressing concern for a former
employee's health and welfare, assuring her that work references would be given to
prospective employers in accordance with her wishes, and advising her that staff ADA
training is current and ongoing.
• At Harrison's request, the board reviewed the library's policy regarding grievance
resolution. Under the section headed, "Procedure," item four of the library policy
directed employees whose grievance is not handled to their satisfication to contact the
city personnel office. Since the city redirected such a complaint back to the board for
resolution, item four was amended to omit such reference.
