After a request to the Library Board from the County to use the MedArk Building parking lot for temporary piling of construction dirt, it was agreed: that the City is again the proper authority for such pe :gyp scion. In returning to the 1991 budget the Board noted some savings in expenditures, including that of salary of a half-time clerk position to be vacated early in the fall and not to be replaced. The Library staff presented two additional optional budgets to the four already before the Board, budgets that anticipate Saturday Library closing. Members of the Board expressed, extreme reluctance to approve either Saturday closing of the Library or a barely minimum $20,000 book expenditure for 1991. After considerable discussion of possible options, a motion by Carol Phillips, seconded by Camilla Crouch, that we submit the budget under option # 2, adjusted for reductions involved in the late spring occupangrof the MedArk Building and with other possible minor elimi- nations of expenses, was approved unanimously. Such a budget would total approximately $490,000 and necessitate approximately $90,000 of additional funding, presumably from the City. The Board recognizes that this falls-Oubgddt negotiations with the City may not allow us to maintain all of the services we prefer to keep. Secretary Park and President Hay will write a letter of explanation to accompany the budget, emphasizing cuts that would be needed to keep within the City's "target" budget support of the Library. The meeting was adjourned at 5:25 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Foster Park, Secretary
