Fayetteville Public Library
April 9, 1990
Present: Board Members Camilla Crouch, Bobbye Hay, Charles Kirchen,
Foster Park, Carol Phillips; Library Director Linda
Harrison; Ozarks Regional Director Karen Duree; Fayetteville
Library staff member June Jefferson
President Bobbye Hay called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. The minutes
for the regular March 12 meeting were approved as corrected. [In paragraph
seven the reference should have been to the Arkansas State Library board
instead of the Arkansas Library Association board.]
Library Director Harrison commented briefly on the Statistical and
Financial reports for March. She noted particularly the increase in
circulation for the first quarter of 1990 over that for 1989, perhaps
because of the milder winter. The electronic counters are showing a
surprising number of patron visits. The audit fee for this year remains
the same as for 1989.
Ms. Harrison called attention to the reading by author Douglas Jones on
April 25 as part of Library Week observance, in cooperation with the
Friends of the Fayetteville Public Library, who will provide refreshments.
Ozarks Regional Director Duree commented briefly about the Regional annual
report for 1989 that had been previously circulated. She noted that this
regional system has a higher circulation per capita than Little Rock, with
many specific patron requests for items in other libraries in the system
or otherwise available through interlibrary loan.
President Hay reported that we still have no definite word from the City
of Fayetteville about the 1990 budget.
Ozarks Regional Director Duree and architect Laleh-Amirmoez: continue to
work on the on-going grant proposal for financial assistance for the
renovating of the MedArk Building. Ms. Duree will personally deliver
the proposal in Little Rock by the April 20 deadline.
The specific means of circulating notices of Board meetings are a bit
uncertain. The Calendar of Events in the Northwest Arkansas Times and
posted notices in the Library will perhaps be used. Consultation with the
City about legal requirements may be necessary.
The amended audit report for 1989 has been received and circulated.
The meeting was adjournedat 4:40 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Foster Park, Secretary
