HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-03-19 MinutesBoard of Trustees Meeting Fayettkville Public Library March 19, 1990 Present: Board Members Camilla Crouch, Bobbye Hay, Charles Kirchen, Foster Park, Carol Phillips; Library Director Linda Harrison President Bobbye Hay called the special meeting to'°order at 9:00 a.m. Discussion followedof the 1990 budget proposal to the City of Fayetteville. President Hay reported that city official Bob Kelly had recently reviewed our proposal as well as the plans for the MedArk Building renovation. But: overall city funds, for both operations and capital improvements, appear to be short of requests for the 1990 year. A letter has been sentto the city requesting that the Library Board be represented on the schedule for the Wednesday, March 28 agenda setting meeting of city officials, but our appearance may be delayed until a later meeting. Board members will be notified when that meeting is definitely scheduled. A general discussion followedof what might be: done to secure the largest possible allocation of city funds for our 1990 budget. Various ways of documenting Library needs were suggested. Library Director Harrison will coordinate this information gathering. We will also emphasize cuts that we have already made in requests for 1990. Additional cost-saving measures (e.g., possible Friends of the Fayetteville Public Library assistance in moving once the MedArk Building renovation is completed) were discussed. Further noted were the architects' fee for renovation (9.25% of construction costs) and the need to relocate Library shelving (east -west instead of the present north-south)when the circulation desk is moved to the present hallway area. It appears that approzimately $400,000 will be needed to complete present plans, of which we have approximately $199,000 committed, essentially from city sources. There was additional discussion about the need to notify regularly local newspapers about Library Board: meetings. The meeting was adjourned at 10:15 atoms Respectfully submitted, Foster Park, Secretary
