Fayetteville Public Library
June 120 1989
Present: Board Members Charles Kirchen, Foster Park, Carol Phillips;
Library Director Linda Harrison; Ozarks Regional Library
Director Karen Duree
Vice President -Secretary Park called the meeting to order at 4: 00 p.m.
The minutes for the regular May 8 meeting were approved as circulated.
Library Director Harrison commented: briefly on the Statistical and
Financial reports for May, noting that ciri.ation for the month was
up compared to 1988. Book orders from the Children's Department
reflect preparations for the coming summer programs.
Director Harrison expressed some concern about the recently announced
rise in Blue Cross -Blue Shield health insurance rates by 68%, from
072.52 monthly to 31630, even though we qualify for group rates under
the City of Fayetteville. Budget adjustments for the year will need to
be made.
Budget Director Judy Huffaker for the City of Fayetteville has indicated
informally to Director Harrison that the Library perhapswould be able
to get money for the Med. rk Building out of accumulated tax receipts.
without having to wait for a bond issue. Remodeling proposals, with
specific detailed projected costs, will be necessary before City Board
approval in any event. A. committee will apparently be formed, including
city officials and Library Board members to select an architect and to
work with him on improvements.
After some discussion of Director Harrison's request for a program for
over -due books designedfor our computer operation, a motion by Carol
Phillips, seconded by Charles Kirchen, to authorize the expenditure of
an amount not to exceed 3800 for such a program was approved unanimously.
In response to a question about present Library housekeeping and
cleaning, Director Harrison indicated that the present service is much,
• much better than under the previous contract.
Ozarks Regional Director Duree noted that the regional board is presently
working on a policy revision in light of the recently -passed state
confidentiality law. Its effect will be mainly on the smaller branch
libraries within the regional system since Fayetteville Public Library
already conforms in most essential respects. However, it was noted
that mailings (Over -dues, books being held, etc.) could no longer go
out on ordinary postcards but would require envelope privacy or fold -
over postcards.
The meeting adjourned at LL :h0 p.m,
Respectfully submitted,
Foster Park, Secretary
