Fayetteville Public Library
March lit, 1988
Present: Board Members Dorothy Bowen, Bobbye Hay, Foster Park, Carol Phillips,
Margaret Salassi; Library Director Linda Harrison; Ozarks Regional
Library Director Karen Duree
President Bobbye Hay called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. The minutes for
the regular February 8 meeting were approved as circulated,
Library Director Harrison distributed and briefly commented on the Statistical
and Financial reports for February. Perhaps because of one extra day in February
this year, both circulation and registrations are up slightly over 1987. The
necessary purchase of a new water heater accounts for the seemingly high
Building and Grounds expense under Operation. Ms. Harrison also noted the new
information signs now completed on Library doors.
Under old business Ms. Harrison reported that we did get Library books returned
in the previously -discussed book theft/substitution case, although it is un-
certain whether or not the City Prosecutor will pursue the case further. The
Board commended Ms. Harrison for her capable handling of this unusual problem.
It was further noted that apparently the former Library employee who had filed
a discrimination protest against the Library after his dismissal late in 1986
will not pursue his case in Federal court, the 90 -day limit for filing now
having passed.
Ozarks Regional Director Duree reported on the February 22 meeting of interested
library supporters to discuss the forthcoming campaign for a millage restoration
to the full one mill tax limit. A steering committee has been appointed, and money
was contributed to help begin the campaign.
President Hay reported on her recent discussion with Scott Linebaugh of the City
of Fayetteville administrative staff concerning possible City purchase of the
Pediatric Building next door, although we still have no definite information
about space available or asking price. President Hay will write to Mayor
Johnson urging this purchase for needed Library expansion.
Treasurer Phillips noted the problems associated with several signatures (from
past Board members) still recognized on our several bank accounts. A motion
by Treasurer Phillips, seconded by Margaret Salassi, to revolt all past signa-
tures and to have recognized now only the signatures of Carol Phillips and
Bobbye S. Hay, was passed unanimously. The Secretary was directed to write a.
letter reporting such Board action to First National Bank, Fayetteville. The
Treasurer's regular quarterly report was postponed because the financial records
are in the hands of the auditors.
Director Harrison reported that Library staff is still working to formalize
Library regulations for Board action.
The City has not yet made a new appointment to the Board to replace Margaret Salassi,
whose term expires April 1. A motion by Dorothy Bowen, seconded by Carol Phillips,
that the Board express its appreciation for the dedicated service of Ms. Salassi,
was approved unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 4:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Foster Park, Secretary
