HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-05-12 MinutesBoard of Directors Fayetteville Public Library Meeting: 4:00 P.M., May 12, 1986 Present: Board Members Bobbye Hay, Jane House, Lois Miller, Margaret Salassi; Director, Linda Harrison. Director Harrison presented the attached statistical and financial statements. She explained that the `-1137 miscellaneous item in Petty Cash was receipts from the genealogy workshop. The `'':1,590.56 Building and Grounds expenses included 11,322.1.8 in improvements of Children's Library lighting. Director Harrison reported that the air samples taken for an asbestos check contained minimal fibers which present no problem to health. The written report from Don Bunn is not yet available. Margaret Salassi reported that she had contacted Dr. Duncan's office and asked that he get in touch with the Library Director to arrange a presentation for Library employees on asbestos problems. Director Harrison was asked to make contact with Dr. Duncan and set a time for the presentation. Helen Brannan has been hired for the genealogy position and will start on May 13. Mrs. Brannan hasschool library experience and has given five years of volunteer service in genealogy. She will work a 20 -hour week. Margaret Salassi reported that it will be next fall before the survey work can be completed. Bobbye Hay reported that the audit report had been discussed with the city financial director. The opinion in paragraph two Of the audit trans- mittal letter related to a not-for-profit organization procedure. In the future the letter requesting the audit should clearly state that the Fay- etteville Public Library is reported as a Special Revenue Fund of the City of Fayetteville. Director Harrison explained that the mail box by the lower entry door is not being used by the postman, but is being used as a book drop. Mar- garet Salassi maje a motion, seconded by Lois Miller, that the mail box be removed. The motion passed unanimously. Lois Miller made a motion, seconded by Jane House, that the damaged gas light be removed at the same time. The motion was approved unanimously. Offers have been received for the painting by Woody Crumbo owned by the Library. The Board agreed tht the painting should be sold only in case of need for funds. Bobbye Hay made a motion, seconded by Jane House, that the Director be authorized to refuse bids but accept bidders' names for the file. The motion passed unanimously. Lois Miller made a motion that the director be authorized to obtain an appraisalof the painting. Margaret Salassi seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. A motion to postpone the discuBion of long-range plans to the June meeting was made by Bobbye Hay and seconded by Margaret Salassi. The motion was approved unanimously. Director Harrison relayed a message from Carol Wright of the Ozarks Regional Library. A regional branch library has been opened in Elkins. It will be opened three afternoons a week.
