HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-03-10 MinutesBoard. of Trustees Fayetteville Public Library Meeting: 1.;:00 p.m., Monday, March 10, 1986 Present: Linda Harrison, Director: Carol Wright, Ozarks Regional Library; Board Members: Bobbye Hay, Jane House, Lois Miller, Margaret Salassi. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as mailed. Director Harrison presented the Attached statistical and financial reports. Better library use was attributed to good weather. Old Business: Director Harrison reported that the new genealogy position has been set at Librarian I, with 22 hours of service per week. She presented the job description for Librarian I. The new employee is expected to be on line by April 1. The position will involve genealogy and other duties as needed, with most time spent in the genealogy section. Proposed schedule will be 1:00-5:00 Tuesday through, Friday and 1:00-7:00 on Monday. The employee will be scheduled with Grace Keith to learn genealogy procedures. Starting pay is '7,203, gross. Continued service of six or seven volunteers is anticipated. The genealogy gate is up. Director Harrison displayed the approved signs to be used. The lock is available and will be installed when the new genealogy posi- tion is filled. City Engineer, Don Bunn, has notified Director Harrison that a lab test shows 2 per cent asbestos in the ceiling. The estimated cost of replacement is more expensive, but still within the budget. The closest licensed contractor for handling asbestos removal is in Russellville. Carol Wright indicated that Ozarks Regional Library wants an air sample or plug test. President Salassi will telephone Don Bunn for follow-up. Director Harrison reported that the staff is pleased with the revised vacation - work options available during ceiling repair:. Membership forms for the Arkansas Library Association Trustees Division were distributed. Annual dues are '"2Q.. Meetings will be held in mid-October or Novem- ber, in Little Rock in 1986 and Fayetteville in 1987. Paperwork for the approved telephone change has been started. New Business: Carol Wright informed the Board about the Book Fair to be held in the Chil- dren's Library, April 21-24. It is intended to educate adults on selecting books for children. A genealogy workshop sponsored by the Washington County Historical Society and the Library will be held April 5, with Dorothy Maulden as the featured speaker. Registration must be made. The 15 fee includes lunch. An overhead projector is needed for the use of the speaker for the workshop. The Board agreed a projector would be useful library equipment. An opaque projec- tor is on hand. The Board decided to contact Friends of the Fayetteville Public Library and recommend such a purchase. Lois Miller spoke about the desirability of a microwave oven for the staff room. She indicated a probable cost of 1120-200 and volunteered to investigate further. She then submitted a motion to buy a migrowave oven from furniture funds at a cost no to exceed 1225. Jane House seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Director Harrison announced that the six adjustable height chairs for the microfilm readers had been received. This purchase was approved in the budget. Long -Range Planning: Lois Miller presented proposed personnel policies, based on city policies and Ozarks Regional Library policies. The meeting adjourned at 5:15. Respectfully submitted, UBobbye S.
