Board of Directors Meeting
November 5, 1981
The Fayetteville Public Library Board of Directors met for a special session
at 4:00, Thursday, Nov. 5. Members present were Martha Brewer, David Parker and
Bob Rains.
The monthly financial and statistical reports were presented and accepted.
Mrs. Foster asked the Board to approve the closing of the library for
Dec. 25 and Dec. 26 (instead of the customary Dec. 24-25) to allow the staff more
consecutive time off. It was the feeling of the Board that the library should
be closed Dec. 24 also. The motion to close the library Dec. 24 through 26 was
introduced by Mr. Rains, seconded by Mr. Parker and passed.
Mrs. Foster reported a complaint about the lack of a book renewal policy.
After some discussion it was agreed that there probably is no need for such a
policy since it is possible for patrons to keep a -book longer than the 3 -week
loan period and pay the 2 cent per day fine.
Mrs. Brewer reported that the Friends of the Library met to select a
nominating committee who will present a slate of officers at the next meeting
on Nov. 12. It was agreed that until the Friends begin to collect membership
fees, that the library should either supply them with postage or reimburse them
for postage.
The proposed budget for 1982 was presented, perused and accepted. It reflects
a 6 per cent increase over the 1981 budget with requests for a 9 per cent increase
from the City of Fayetteville and 6 per cent from Washington County. Salaries
were increased by 9 per cent. Since staff salaries are still a year behind those
of city employees, Mrs. Foster suggested that a cover letter accompany the
budget requestin an adjustment to the city's portion if a new pay plan for 1982 is
adopted.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned. The next meeting of
the Library Board will be December 14.
Respectfully,
Linda Foster
