HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-09-14 MinutesFAYETTEViLLE PUBLIC LIBRARY Board of Directors Meeting The Board held its regular monthly session on September 14, 1981, with.: Mr. Rains absent. The minutes of the August meeting were approved as circulated. The regular statistical reports were received and discussed. The librarian also reported that a new compressor was installed to repair the air conditioner. The unit itself was provided under the warranty, but there was a bill for labor, etc. The "grace period" for returning books seemed useful again, with several hundred books being returned. It was agreed that Some type of "sale" period will be provided to give anyone interested a chance to buy either 1) the various old books that have been found to be no longer useful for our collections or 2) the broken chairs that have now been replaced. After this has been done, arrangements may be made to turn books over to the hospitals (to be make available to patients at no cost) and the chairs, etc. to a group such as Abilities Unlimited. A motion (by Parker, seconded by Miller) was approved to authorize the usual travel support for attendance at the state meeting of librarians Oct. 4, 5, 6 for Linda Foster, Genie Donovan and Elizabeth Danley. Plans for preparing the budget proposal for next year were discussed. We do not yet have the city's guidelines but it was agreed that our request should include: i) funds needed to bring salary schedules for library staff into line with those for comparable city employees. 2) funds needed to meet increased costs for new books. 3 funds needed in order that we may again offer some increased hours of service, at least during the winter and spring months. by Robbin C.
