Board of Directors Meeting
The Board of Directors met for its regular session on August 10,
1981 with all members present.
Elizabeth Danley reported on a highly successful Summer Reading
Program that included 650 participants. Attendance at the Wednesday
afternoon "Library Happenings" was about 200 each week.
The monthly reports on library activities and finances showed a•
slight drop in circulation and about 10 per cent decrease in new registrants
as compared to last year.
The Board approved an order for 100 new chairs for the auditorium. The
old chairs which are still serviceable can all be used in other parts of the
library. Approval. was also given for the staff to follow the usual procedure
of closing the library for a period around the Labor Day holiday for the
annual inventory, etc. -- also to include a "grace period" for overdue books
to be returned. As part of the procedure for initiating the retirement option
for the staff, Bob E. Hall was authorized to pay installation and admission
fees from the trust.
Martha Brewer reported that arrangements had been made with Jean Newell
at Washington Regional Medical Center to try the proposed book cart plan.
There should be a supply of worn copies available after the Labor Day check-up.
The Board members were reminded that it will be necessary to begin pre-
paration of budget proposals in September. The staff were asked to study costs,
etc., for various options in lieu of the Thursday night opeinings so that
possible plans may be considered as part of the Budget considerations.
Occasional minor traffic tie-ups around the library itself are still occurring.
It was suggested that the set of signs to direct traffic flow are still not
fully clear. David Parker volunteered to check for possible ways to change these
to eliminate confusion.
