Minutes, Board of Directors Meeting
March 9, 1981
The regular meeting of the Board was convened at 4:00 p.m. March 9, 1981,
with all present except Mr. Parker.
The regular statistical and financial reports were duly considered. The
financial report shows an abnormally low balance at the end of the month, but
this is simply a temporary situation resulting from the fact that the formal
transfer of county funds is still in progress.
There was a brief discussion of formal procedure to be used in approving
the minutes of each meeting. These are mailed out in advance and it was noted
that each board member is asked to be sure to read them. Comments or corrections
are welcome. Therefore, it was agreed that unless some question is raised, the
record should show that they are approved as circulated.
Mr. Anderson suggested that since we have now tried the evening hours on
Thursdays for about a year, and since we may face a decision later this spring
on whether to continue this service or to use the funds for purchase of books or
some other service, we should be making plans to determine costs of the services
and also public reaction on the need for this. The staff were asked to start checking
costs and also perhaps to develop a simple questionnaire that might be used to give
the library's subscribers and others opportunity to express their opinions on
this matter.
In closing it was noted that this meeting concluded Mr. Shelton's term of
service and that other members of thaBoard and staff wished to express their
deep appreciation for his many contributions during his period of membership.
