Minutes, Board of Directors Meeting
February 9, 1981
The Board met for its regular meetin g on February 9 at 14:00 p.m., with
all members present.
Mr. Pearson came to the session to discuss, on behalf of the Transcendental
Meditation group, its request for occasional use of the library's meeting room.
He stressed that such meetings were not for religious purposes, but were rather
meetings designed to offer to the public at large - with no fee or other costs
charged - information about certain stress factor's in one's personal life,
their relation to psychological problems, and ways to meet these problems.
He was given information on the earlier ruling which the City Attorney had made
that this group is basically a religious organization; and it was suggested that
he discuss this with the City Attorney.
Tile regular statistical reports were then presented and discussed.
At the close of the meeting it was discovered that the press had not
received due notice of our special meeting on January 26. It was noted for the
record that this was an inadvertent oversight and that the policy of the Board
continues to be that our meetings are open to the press and public and will be
scheduled in accordance with pertinent provisions of the Freedom of Information
Act.
