HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-06-12 MinutesThe Board of the Fayettevill Public Library met at 4 p.m* in the Library on June 12, 1972. After the reading of the *mutes, Mr. Williams reported that he had dicussed the adjacent property with Mr. Cy Carney, Jr., who offered it for $ 15,000. City Attorney David Malone had supplied an appraisal of $ 13,000 from Sullivan & Associates, so Mr. Shelton (seconded by Mr. Wylie) moved that Mr. Carney be offered $13,000. The motion was passed,and subsequently the offer was made and accepted. Date of acceptance: Mr. Wlie moved to sell the Read property to Ray white, a pro forma motion to make the transaction legal. The salea' ill net the Library approximately $ $,100, a sum which, with aid promised by City Manager Donald Grimes, will be sufficient to begin long term thoughts, if not plans, for future expansion. Mr. Williams further mentioned that Mr. Thornsberry would begin painting and repair of the lights on Monday, June 19, and that Arkansas Western Gas Company had suggested that more repairs are needed on the air- conditioning equipment, which has been serviced one time out of the Bight allowed under the maintenance contract. Mr* krilliams will check with Mr. Arnold Christy of the gas company and take suitable action. 4 Mrs. Keith gave the monthly report of circulation, registration, and petty cash (attached) and noted that: BOA has been slow to pay its rental fee and caused friction with the janitor; it was agreed to ask BOA to find other meeting places. The large tree in the southeast corner of the parking lot is dead and will have to be removed. The summer reading program is proceeding successfully nth 520 children enrolled; the program includes not only the program at Fulbright Memoriam`,Library but at Asbell School and the Youth Center. The new shelving has arrived and may be installed just before school opens after Mrs. Wright checks to see if the installation will be done by the supplier. The number of overdue books is normal; a list of the delinquent will be prepared for City Attorney David Malone to harass into returning such books. Mrs. Murphy presented the monthly treasurer's report (attached) and remarked that the city was almost prompt in its payment of the quarterly allocation, an act that left us within the budget and generally in satisfactory financial shape.
