HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-08-09 MinutesThe Board of the Fayetteville Public Library met August 9, 1971, at 4 p.m. with Mr. Webb WILL Baas, Mrs. C.B.Murphy, Mr. Ted Wylie, Mrs. Grace Keith, and Mrs. Carol Wright present. Mr. W1111ams reported that the insurance company will no longer be responsible for elevator maintenance, which will now be subject to inspection by the Hot Springs representative at $12 per insp6otion. Mrs. Wright reported a successful, library institute and thanked the Fayetteville Public Library and the Board for their co-operation. , Mrs. Keith gave the monthly report (attached) and noted the need for repairing the floor covering. Mrs. Murphy will notify January. There will be two staff vacancies as of Sept. 1 with the resignations of Mrs. Lyndall Guthrie and Mrs Michaela Beard, and another with that of Mrs. Jacqueline Cloutman as of Nov. 1. It was agreed to grant a paid vacation of one week to Mrs. Guthrie, whose resignation falls two months short of the year required. Mrs, Keith suggested hiring a clerk -typist halftime and a girl, now employed, halftime to shelve books in place of one full time clerk who would shelve books with reluctance. Agreed. R Mrs. Wright noted the urgent need for additional shelving for adult nonfiction since 6400 volumes have been added since the oper`_Ig.Of the new addition in May, 1970. Needs amoimt to 15 double-faced sections costing approximately $1500. Decision postponed for a conference with the city manager to determine kI Pr bids should be taken or the item included in the budget for next year. Mr. Williams noted that Mr. Jones will reinforce the curbing on the back parking lot. Mrs. Murphy gave the financial report (attached) and noted that the water bill is moderately alarming and that payment of August salaries depends on prompt receipt of funds from the city* The Board directed Mrs. Keith to write the city attorny asking him to take more direct and forceful action with patrons failing to return long -overdue books.
