HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-04-12 MinutesThe Board of the Fayetteville Public Library met at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 1971. A quorum of Williams, Murphy, and -Ltadolph was present. After the minutes were approved as read, Mr. 'Williams presented the bill from the Anchor Construction Co. for paving the lot; the bill for $2052.25 was approved and the contract filed. Gratefully noted at this point was the city's contribution of $1.200 to the project. Mr. Williams then remarked Uht the sewer repairs had come almost $300 over the estimate. Estimate: $300; cost: Mrs. Murphy reported that Mr. Christie had installed the gas lights and illumination under the deck was quite good. She presented the monthly, and quarterly reports (attached) and a review of the annual budget for discussion(attached). The budget is under control with very narrow margins for emergencies. Mrs. Keith gave the monthly report of cireuUtion, registration, and petty cash (attached). Other items she mentioned were: 10 the library needs 90 new lights, which will be requisitioned from the city warehouse. 2. the elevator is operating erratically and will have to be inspected. 3. the Gtkl Scouts' offer to plant a shrub was accepted with Mrs. Murphy as supervisor, 4. the Laubach Society's request that the Library sell its reading materials was refused on the graounds that the staff, already shorthanded, could not take on additional duties. Mrs. Wright reported: 1. the New York Stock Exchange has offered to give via local brokers three short courses in investments if the library will provide the space to local brokers. To be pursued. 2. the microfilm reader and cabinets have arrived, and the microfilm is on order. 3. two more sessions of pre—school story hour have been finished with increased interest. 4. Mrs. Keith and Becky Sdott attended the regional library workshop in Fort Smith on April 5 with interest and profit. 5* the question of closing the library at noon or one p.m. on Saturdayp during the summer months was brought up. The staff needs uninterrupted time for shelving and chores but the desire for longer hours is an opposing factor. Mr. Howe will be queried. 6. City Library books: 19, 635 ORL 27,206 46, 541 Adj : 045
