HomeMy WebLinkAbout1969-01-13 MinutesFayetteville Public Library Board Minutes of January 13,1969 The Board of Trustees of the Fayetteville Public Library held its regular monthly meeting on January 13,1969 at 4:00 p.m. in the board room. Present:Board members :Mr*Webb Williams,Mrs.Lowell Chaney,Mr.Ted Wylie, O.W.MeMillen; Librarians;Mrs.Carol Wright,Mrs.Grace Keith; Assistant City Manager Sturman Mackey. The minutes of December 9,1968 were read and approved. In reply to a series of questions concerning the acquisition of fed- eral funds for the construction of an addition to the library,which Mrs.Wright presented to the Arkansas Library Commission,Miss Freddy SchAder,Administrative Assistant to the Commission,informed her that federal matching funds might be available on a 60% _federal to a 40% local basis but that such funds would have to be totally encumbered by June 3�06,9.As a first step the Board decided to ask,Mr.Warren Seagraves,,to meet with us at a special session and give us as close an estimate as he can concerning the cost of an addition of the size and material of,and in conformity with,our meeting room. Estimates of the cost of furnishings,which can be included in the total,will also have to be made. 4 It was voted to approve the budget for 1969 as presented by the tr.easurer,Mrs.Lowell Chaney.Reports for December,the fourth quarter, and for the year 1968 were also presented.There was on hand the sum of $5,605.25 on January 1,1969,including the contingency fund of $1,500. The report of the librarian showed a grand total circulation for Der cember of 11,673,almost a thousand more than for last December.The registration figures were 106 and 125 respectively for the two periods mentioned. A report for the year 1968 showed a grand total circulation of 184,557;for the preceding year it was 163,741. The total bookstock on January 1,1969,including the regional,was 38,100. It is noted for the record that use of the meeting; room by the 0 E 0 has been withdrawn as of the first of the year. Grateful acknowledgment of the gift of the book,Crown Jewels of Iran, by Senator Ftilbright is made. ~ Pursuant to the report by Mrs.Wright that Rogers Public Library has acquired a special status with the Arkansas State Library as a. dem- ons t""tion library,which status in a way makes that library P. member Of Ozarks Regional Library and on recommendation of Mrs.'Nright,it was voted that holders of Rogers Library cards may present their cards here to check out books,pr.ovided that this arrangement is approved on a two -.year basis,which is the length of time that Rogers Library has the special status.
