Minutes of December 9,1968
The Board of Trustees of the Fayetteville Public Library held its
regular monthly meeting on December 9,1968 at 4:00 p.m.in the board
room.
Present:Board members:Mr.Webb Williams,Mr.Ted Wylie,Mr.Ellis Shelton,
O.W.McMillen;
Librarians:Mrs.Carol Wright,Mrs.Grace Keith.
The minutes of November 11 were read and approved.
In reply to the Board.1s letter of October 17 to Senator Fulbright,
requesting that he deposit his papers in our library,the Senator
stated that they have been promised to the University of Arkansas.
The report of the treasurer for November showed a balance on hand
of $9,208.74.
The report of the librarian showed a grand total circulation for
November of 13,996,which exceeded that of November 1967 by somewhat
more than 1,000. Registration was 148,somewhat Less than that of
a ,year ago.
From time to time the need for expansion,especially in the form of
a wing to the east of the size and style of the auditorium on the
west has been called to the attention of the board.At this meeting
Mrs.Wright showed in a graphic form just how badly the need for
expansion is really getting to be.Her report shows the increase in
total beekstock,local and regional loan,from 21,666 in June 1962
to 37,904 in October 1968 and the increase in circulation from
128,771 in 1962 to 163,741 in 1967.The 1968 circulation will un-
doubtedly be still greater.The report is attached to these minutes.
It was decided to make inquiries regarding the matter of the acqui-
sition of federal matching funds and the probable costs.
