Minutes of October 14,1968
The Board of Trustees of the Fayetteville Public Library held its
regular monthly meeting on October 14,1968 in the board room.a.Ytt;oap.�m.
Present:Board members:Mr.Webb Williams,Mrs.Lowell Chaney,Mr.Ted Wylie,
O.W.McMillen;
Librarians:Mrs.Carrol Wright,Mrs.Grace Keith;
Assistant City Manager Sturman Mackey.
A statement concerning the July meeting and the minutes of August 12
were read P.nd approved.
It is noted that the elevator certificate fee has now been increased
from $4.00 to $6.00 per year.
Mrs.Keith reported that complaints had been made by various patrons
that ,the main front door of the library is very difficult to open.
Mr.Mackey agreed to see whether the City would be able to adjust it.
Wit# reference to a broken window reported by Mrs.Keith the chairman
will check with Mr.Shelton to see what the insurance representatives
have done about the matter.
The quarterly report of the treasurer showed a balance of $4,064.1W.
on September 30,not including the contingency fund of $1500.00.
It was agreed to leave the final decision concerning the request of
the OEO to use the meetin90,Q%o times a week for tutoring students to
the chairman after receiving further information relative to the
request from Mrs.Keith.
The report of the librarian showed a grand total circulation for
September of 110444 and total registration of 146.
On motion by Mrs.Chan ey and seconded by Mr.Wylie,it was voted to help
pay Mrs.Keith's expenses to the Southwest Regional Library Meeting.
Mrs. Writtreported sending out letters to the local ministers to
ascertain what the library can do for them in their field.She also
reported that a teacher from the Technical School had brought students
in to the library and that they were conducted through it.These special
interest endeavors will increase the usefulness of our library.She
also displayed to the board a seventeen -volume set of the International
Enccy
cloP egia of_Social Seiences,which makes a very useful addition to

our reference collection.
A letter was authorized to be written to Senator Fulbright to raise
the question of making this library the depository of his public
letters,papers,and other documents concerning his service in the
Congress of the United States.
