Minutes of June 10,1968
The Board of Trustees of the Fayetteville Public Library held its regu-
lar monthly meeting on June 10,1968 at 4:00 p.m.in the board room.
Present:Board members:Mr.Webb Williams,Mrs.Lowell Chaney9Mr.Ellis Shelton,
Mr.Ted Wyli.e,O.W.McMillen;
Librarians:Mrs.Carrol Wright,Mrs.4race Keith.
The minutes of May 13 were read and approved.
Mrs.Keith reported that the Summer Reading Program was in progress and
was attended with much success.Some one thousand books were checked out
on this date in connection with the program.About 390 are at present an-
rolled.Mrs.Keith estimated that probably more than five hundred will
have enrolled during the reading program period.
The librarian's report for May showed a grand total circulation of 14,443.
The total last May was 110856. Registration figures for the same two
periods were 211 and 131 respectively.
The report of the treasurer showed a balance of $7,313.53 on June 1 and
$1,474.14 in the house rent fund.
Mrs.Wright raised the question of the desirability of purchasing spoken
records through a jobber at a 38% discount -No objections were raised.
Mrs.Wright also requested the board to be thinking about the idea of
purchasing microfilms to enable us to have copies of the Northwest Arkan-
sas Time0this purchase would also involve that of a film reader and a
cabinet.
Inquiries have frequently come to the library regarding copying docu-
ments and artieles.In view of these inquiries Mrs.Wright requested the
board to consider the purchase of a suitable maeliine,coin operated.
Mrs.Keith pointed out the fact that the need. for new book shelves was
becoming a;u.ite apparent.
In light of all the foregoing suggestions and needs,it was voted to place
$50.00 per month from fines in the funds now remaining fron the original
bond issue for such equipment.
The board adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
